ِAbandon (a well)

‫التوقف عن إنتاج النفط أو الغاز من بئر ما‬

. ‫عندما تصبح غير مجدية اقتصاديًا‬
‫ويمكن التخلي عن البئر االستكشافية‬
. ‫التجريبية بعد أن يثبت أنها غير منتجة‬
Stop producing oil or gas from a well
when it becomes uneconomical. The
experimental exploration well can be
abandoned after it proves that it is not
productive.

A gas that forms acidic solutions when
mixed with water. The most famous
acidic gases are toxic hydrogen sulfide
and carbon dioxide, both of which are
corrosive.

Adhesion occurs on the surface of a solid or
liquid object in contact with a liquid or gases.
And adsorption results in the aggregation of
gas molecules or liquid molecular ions that
are on the surface of the body in contact with
solid or liquid materials.

Air magnetic survey work is carried out by
low-flying aircraft to take measurements
of the Earth's magnetic field. The aerial
geophysical survey provides a general
conception of the geology of the aquifers.

A drilling method in which the

Gas that is associated with oil is known

as “associated gas”, and gas that is
found alone is referred to as “non-
associated gas”.

Artificial Lift
‫أية وسيلة تستخدم لرفع النفط إىل السطح‬
‫من بئر ما بعد أن يكون ضغط المكمن قد‬
‫اخفض إىل نقطة لم تعد فيها البئر قادرة‬
. ‫عىل اإلنتاج بوسائل الطاقة الطبيعية‬

Any means used to raise oil to the surface

from a well after the reservoir pressure
has been reduced to a point where the
well is no longer capable of producing by
means of natural energy.

Biofuel

Any liquid, gas, or solid fuel produced by
an organic material, plant or animal,
such as soybean oil and alcohol from
fermented sugar, and black liquid from
the process of manufacturing paper and
wood, and so on.

Brent Crude

Brent crude is used as a standard for pricing
two-thirds of the world's oil production, and
it consists of an oil mixture from 15 different
fields. It is considered a light and sweet oil
due to its specific weight of 38 degrees and
low sulfur content that reaches 0.37 percent.

Cap Rock

A stratigraphic arrangement of
impermeable rocks above (and
covering) the reservoir rocks, preventing
the leakage of hydrocarbons and their
dispersal over the surface of the earth.

Well casing, which is done by steel

tubes connected to each other to cover
the well, and these tubes are fixed to
the well wall using cement.

Directional Drilling

Drilling directed at a specific target in a
direction other than the vertical, and
there are certain conditions that make
directional drilling necessary, such as the
perpendicular surface conditions and the
drilling target not conducive to the
construction of drilling rigs.

This term is usually used to refer to the
refining of crude oil and the sale and
distribution of products derived from
crude oil. These products include
liquefied petroleum gas, gasoline, jet
fuel, diesel, and asphalt.

A mixture of mud, water and certain
chemicals injected into the well during
drilling operations with the aim of removing
rock fragments, lubricating and cooling the
drill bit, protecting the walls of the well and
preventing its eruption by impounding fluids
due to pressure in geological formations.

Ignition of gases emitted into the

atmosphere for safety purposes, and
this ignition takes place during oil
production to get rid of associated
natural gas, which is of no economic
benefit to consumption.

Gas Injection

Injection of natural gas into the oil

reservoir to maintain pressure, which
helps in the production of oil from the
reservoir.

Migration

The primary migration is the movement
of oil from the parent rock towards the
reservoir rock, and the secondary
migration is the movement of oil within
the reservoir rock towards a trap that
collects in it.

A polymer is generally defined as a
molecule made up of repeating
structural units, and common examples
of a polymer include rubber (a natural

and nylon (a synthetic polymer).

Steam Injection

One of the methods of enhanced oil
recovery, in which steam is injected into
an oil reservoir, and the heat released by
the steam reduces the viscosity of the
oil.

West Texas Crude

It is one of the light and sweet oils, its
specific gravity is 396 degrees, and it
contains only 0.24 percent of sulfur.
Therefore, it is better than OPEC and Brent
crude, and its price is higher. Due to its
quality, it is the main source of gasoline in
the United States.

Wet Gas

Untreated natural gas contains

condensable hydrocarbons, and what
distinguishes natural gas is that it
contains more than a liter of condensate
per 75 cubic meters at the wellhead.
