BMet Role Profile

Lecturer in Creative Media Production

Main purpose

To work within the Media Production team delivering Vocational programmes of study –
driving up standards and attracting new students through the use of new digital
technologies and applications.

A commitment to producing high quality creative student work is essential.


Key accountabilities
 To teach Creative Media Production subjects within the vocational programmes of
study
 To collaborate with different subject areas to create new opportunities for learners
 To organise and run a range of public showcase events
 To raise the profile and quality of Creative Media Production provision at the
college
 To build links with Media organisations in the West Midlands
 To support and implement the directorate‘s vision for outstanding, cutting edge
creative education and training in the West Midlands
 Engage in school liaison (14-16) work and other identified priority groups
 Undertake, as a personal tutor, the pastoral care of identified students
 Prepare students for progression (including UCAS applications and routes to
employment)
 Student achievement and retention on the courses taught
 Accuracy of student data for students in groups/classes
 Teach your subject throughout the department as required and, if necessary,
service other departments within the college.
 Undertake tutorial responsibilities for appropriate courses
 Undertake programme co-ordination responsibilities as appropriate and necessary
 Contribute to a common bank of teaching materials such as assignments,
schemes of work etc.
 Devise, set and mark both internal projects/assignments and examination papers
where appropriate
 Complete registers, reports and other statistical information as required for
departmental or College administrative purposes
 Contribute to, and participate in, curriculum development and innovation
 Conduct student assessment and review progress, including relevant information
for moderation and revalidation purposes
 Assist in the selection and assessment of prospective students
 Commit to, promote and operate in accordance with BMet’s values and goals
including but not limited to: safeguarding; health and safety; diversity and inclusion.
 Commit to and participate in college-wide activities as required including but not
limited to: enrolment; open events; development.

Qualifications, experience and competencies


 Have a degree or equivalent professional training in an appropriate subject

 Hold or be working towards Qualified Teacher Status


 Have or be working towards a teaching qualification
 Have experience teaching of Media Production with successful outcomes for
learners
 Have experience as a course/subject leader
 Possess good administrative and organisational skills and be able to communicate
effectively with staff, students, parents, placements, employers and prospective
students
 Possess the ability to generate enthusiasm and commitment in students
 Have a proven track record of leading creative projects with students
 Hold a broad knowledge of the media/creative industries and be able to
communicate such knowledge effectively
