DARK CONTENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

INTRODUCE

Good morning ladies and gentlemens! Thank you for being here today. My name is Phạm
Thị Như Quỳnh. I’m a reporter for VTV television station. Have you ever shared
inaccurate information or fake news on Facebook? I’m sure that everyone has had a
moment of sharing such information. Currently, there is a lot of false information
spreading on social media. And people with limited knowledge, experience. They often
like, comment and share and criticize one problem negatively. For example, some pages
or users on Facebook shared information about fake COVID-19 infection numbers or
Covid-19 death rate is fake information. These claims have not been verified by official
government sources. It causes very serious consequences. And it makes me today I come
to deliver this topic to change your sentiment of fact news. We should learn how to stop it
right now, now and in the future. It's not for me, it’s for everyone. We should act to stop
"fake news” in our lives.

My talk will last about 15 minutes and there’ll be time at the end for questions. If you
have any questions, please let me know.

BODY

As I told you, dark content spread on social networks like Facebook is increasing

The first problem I’d like to focus on is the spreading of false information, misleading
facts, and baseless rumors about the Coronavirus pandemic. This kind of information
directly affects how people think, feel, and behave on Facebook. It makes people overly
worried, panicked, and scared, which can lead to uncontrollable situations and
unpredictable consequences. I remember, during the initial wave of the Covid-19
pandemic in our country, this kind of information caused anxiety among some people.
People started hoarding food and supplies, which caused shortages in local areas and
negatively affected businesses and supply chains in many places. That's why each of us
needs to take personal responsibility and be cautious when we come across unverified
information. It's only through working together and the commitment of every citizen that
we can strengthen our community's ability to fight against fake news and misinformation

The second problem I'd like to focus on is about famous individuals or those with
influence on Facebook using fake news to gain fame. A recent scandal involving singer
Hoàng Thùy Linh on September 6th has drawn attention. She became the center of
controversy due to a thoughtless and sensitive statement made during a press conference
introducing her first career concert. The statement lacked consideration and was seen by
many as confusing and detrimental to her singing career. The only advantage was that it
generated some buzz for the upcoming live show. However, these effects can erode
public trust and have a negative impact on the singer's reputation as well as other
celebrities in the showbiz industry.

The third problem I want to focus on is the discussion of certain Facebook users and fan
pages spreading fake and misleading information to exploit people's goodwill. They
might claim to support charitable causes, such as fundraising for shelters or calling for
community help for those in difficult situations. We all carry empathy within us for the
less fortunate, impoverished lives, hungry children, and tragic destinies. In the age of
social media, the saying "where there's smoke, there's fire" has a greater chance of
spreading easily, as it is no longer a story confined to a few individuals. However, this is
also a fertile ground for criminals to take advantage of people's compassion and deceive
them, ultimately pocketing a significant amount of money.

In short, having dirty content on social networks is a condemnable practice because it not
only causes physical but also mental harm to the victims, affecting society and the
country. Therefore, each of us should propagate and prevent bad behavior on social
networks today

CONCLUSION

These problems won’t be solved by myself. But in the future, we have the power to make
a positive change. Imagine a world where social media platforms are free from dark
content, where kindness and respect prevail. In this future, we will come together as a
community, taking collective responsibility to create a safe and uplifting online space.
We will educate ourselves and others about the impact of dark content, raising awareness
and promoting digital well-being. Together, we can build a future where social media
platforms foster positivity, inspire creativity, and connect people in meaningful ways. Let
us strive towards this vision, working diligently to create a brighter and safer digital
world for generations to come. Thank you for spending time with me today. I hope you
will gain a better understanding of the trust we discussed.
