Lesson Plan in Social Studies 5

I. Objectives/Learning Outcomes (SMART)


At the end of the lesson, the grade 5 students can:
a. define what is barangay;
b. identify the 2 kinds of law in the barangay;
c. compare the barangay during Spanish colonization and the current barangay;
d. tell the functions, rules and regulations in the barangay;
e. express appreciation on the importance of barangay as a simple form of
government; and
f. create a poster about the functions of barangay.

A. Introduction
1. Classroom Routine
Good evening students!
The teacher will start her
discussion by starting a prayer
followed by checking of the
attendance and presenting her
classroom rules.
(The teacher will present the learning
objectives)
2. Motivation
The teacher will present a puzzle
pictures and scramble letters and
let the students solve the puzzle
and arrange the scrambled letter
B. Presentation
After solving the puzzle the
teacher will ask the following
question.
1. What have you seen in the
picture?
2. Do you think that every places
in our country have this type of
place?

3. Do you think that this place


creates rules and regulation to
maintain the safety of our
community?

After which, the teacher will


discuss what is barangay, who
rules the barangay, what are the
two kinds of governance during
Spanish colonization and what
are the 2 kinds of law in the
barangay
D. Comparison and Abstraction
After the discussion the
teacher will ask the
following question.

How do the unwritten law


differ form the written law?

How do the barangay


before differ from the current
barangay?
What are the changes in
terms of ruling the barangay
before and now?

Which do you prefer to live


in term of ruling the barangay
before or now? Why?

The teacher will divide the class
into 5 groups and ask the student
to get their materials for their
activity. In the activity, each
group will create a poster
showing the functions of the
barangay. Each group will
choose 1 representative to
explain their work.
