Curriculum Expectations:
B1.2 Describe the causes and symptoms of nutrient deficiencies
B1.2 Describe the nutrient content of specific foods, using available food and nutrition information
B1.4 Plan and prepare a food item or items to ensure optimal nutrient content and retention
Requirements:
1. Research a nutrient deficiency or a condition caused by an overage of a particular
nutrient by choosing one from the list on back of paper.
2. Describe the following:
a. General overview
b. Diagnosis
c. Causes
d. Symptoms
e. Treatment
f. Complications
g. References (APA format only)
3. In a well-written paragraph, include a recommendation of how to improve the chosen
condition.
4. Include a recipe (with a picture) of a dish you could prepare that would provide the
missing nutrients based on the deficiency you chose to research, or a recipe that would
improve the health condition of a person suffering from a condition due to an overage of
a particular nutrient. Explain why you chose this particular dish.
5. Communicate this information by using one of the following formats:
Poster
Pamphlet
Nutrition article in a magazine
PowerPoint
