1. Introduction
The autoSCAN-4 Diagnostics is a Windows-NT program used to analyze the autoSCAN-4 Instrument.
All features are grouped by their common functionality. The Data Tab displays instrument voltages, A/D
board gain, allows the user to read panels, and calibrates the autoSCAN-4 Instrument. The Control Tab
allows the user to position the drawer and colorwheel. The Alignment Tab guides the user through the
Power Supply, Reference Fiber, A/D Board, and Offset Test Panel alignments. The Test Tab allows the
user to execute autoSCAN-4 internal diagnostics and test the drawer movement.

The autoSCAN-4 program is password protected to prevent untrained individuals from accessing the
program.

Figure 2.1 Diagnostics Password Dialog Box

When the autoSCAN-4 Diagnostics program is executed, the Diagnostics Password dialog box (Figure
2.1) will be displayed. The user must enter the autoSCAN-4 serial number, serial port the instrument is
connected to, and a valid password before the autoSCAN-4 Diagnostics Main Menu is displayed.

2.1 Password
The user must enter a pre-determined password. If the password field is left blank the program
will be in DEMO mode. The user will have access to all autoSCAN-4 Diagnostics screens but
the software will not communicate with the autoSCAN-4 Instrument. As the user enters a
password, asterisks (*) will be displayed to prevent others from learning the password. The
password is not case sensitive.

2.2 Instrument Serial Number

The Serial Number field identifies the serial number of the autoSCAN-4 Instrument. The user
must manually enter the serial number each time the program is executed. The serial number is
limited to a five-digit number.

Figure 3.1 Data – Voltage/Gain Tab

The Voltage/Gain Tab (Figure 3.1) allows the user to select and monitor various autoSCAN-4 Voltages.

3.1.1 Select Test Point

3.1.1.1 +10 Volt Standard (TP 9)

The analog to digital converter generates a 10 VDC signal. The acceptable limits for this
voltage are 9.85 VDC to 10.15 VDC. If this test fails, check the power supply voltage.
Also verify that the interconnection to the CPU board is OK. If the test still fails, the A/D
is more than likely defective.

8 For use by Dade Behring MicroScan Trained Personnel only 9020-6627A

3.1.1.2 -15 Volts (TP 12)
-15 VDC is generated on the Power Control Board and applied to the A/D board. The
acceptable limits for this voltage are from -14 VDC to -16 VDC.

3.1.1.3 Analog Ground (TP 2)

This signal level should be 0 Volts +/-10 mV. Failure in this test could indicate a faulty
A/D board. Analog ground is the required reference point for test points 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10,
11, 12, 13, and 14.

3.1.1.4 +15 Volts (TP 10)

+15 VDC is generated on the Power Control Board and applied to the A/D board. The
acceptable limits for this voltage are from +14 VDC to +16 VDC. If the +15 volt needs to
be adjusted, use the Alignment Power Supply tab. If the voltage is not adjustable check
the power supply voltages, interconnection between the power board and A/D board,
control board, power board, and A/D board.

3.1.1.5 +1 Volt Standard (TP 5)

The A/D board also generates a 1 volt reference. This particular voltage level should be 1
volt +/-20 mV. If the voltage is out of range, check the power supply voltages. Verify
that the interconnection to the CPU board is OK. If the voltage still fails, the A/D board is
more than likely defective.

3.1.1.6 DAC Offset (TP 11)

The DAC Offset is designed to check the dynamic range of the offset adjustment. The
dynamic range of the offset is from -203 mV to +203 mV. If the screen displays a voltage
greater than plus or minus 170 mV, a problem may exist on the A/D board.

3.1.1.7 2/3 Log Amp Output (TP 14)

To verify the 2/3 Log Amp Output signal set the parameters as indicated in Table 3.1. An
error may indicate a defective A/D board. The DAC gain is set at 255 to achieve these
values.
SELECTED SIGNAL INPUT
SEL. REF. INPUT 0.010 0.100 1.000

Table 3.2 Log Amp Output (+/-1%)

3.1.1.9 +1 Volt at Photo Board

Selecting this option checks for +1 volts on the photo board. It should be 1 volt +/-20mV.
If this value is not correct, a problem could exist in the photo board or the photo board to
A/D board interconnect cable.

3.1.1.10 Signal Input Photo Board (TP 1)

The screen should indicate the signal value that was selected from Table 3.1 +/- 5% is
being received from the photo board. A problem may exist with the photo board if this
signal fails.

3.1.1.11 Reference Input Photo Board (TP 3)

The screen should indicate the reference value that was selected from Table 3.2 +/-5% is
being received from the photo board. A problem may exist with the photo board if this
signal fails.

3.1.1.12 +5 Volts (TP 8)

This verifies that the +5 volt is present on the A/D board. If the +5 volts needs to be
adjusted, use the Alignment Power Supply tab. If the voltage is not adjustable, check the
power supply voltages, interconnection between the power board and A/D board, control
board, power board, and A/D board.

3.1.1.13 2/3 DAC Output (TP 11)

The 2/3 DAC Output signal is used to verify the output of the DAC is providing correct
signals. Refer to Table 3.3 for the correct outputs.

3.1.4.1 Signal Input

The Signal Input determines which input is selected from the photo diode multiplexer for
processing on the A/D board. 0.010, 0.100 and 1.000 volts are reference voltages to test
the functionality of the A/D board. The External Input allows an external signal to be
supplied to the system (0 to +10 volts). The Normal signal input allows the photo diode
signals to be processed with the output voltage determined by the DAC setting, colorwheel
filter selection, and panel media. Table 3.7 shows the Signal Inputs and expected reading
at TP1. The DAC must be set to 255 for Table 3.7 to be valid.
