Alternative Energy Fossil Fuels

INTRODUCTION
Hello, my name is Warren. My topic today is about global climate change because of
fossil fuels. Before discussing this topic, we must first understand global climate change.
Global climate change is a long-term change in temperatures and weather patterns over Earth.
These changes happen because of natural changes or caused by human activities. Our focus
for this topic is the changes that occur because of fossil fuels.
Fossil fuel is a non-renewable energy source which is a hydrocarbon containing materials,
such as coal and natural gasses that formed from plants and animals that died thousands of
years ago. Despite its usage as an energy source, Fossil fuels, when burned, can release
carbon dioxide and go directly into the atmosphere.

Fig 1. The sum of fossil fuel and land use changes CO2 emission.
The problems affected by carbon emissions are global warming and climate change. The
temperature of the Earth is warmer and changing weather happens to the surrounding
environment. For example, in 2022, snowfall in the Sahara desert, and 2023, hailstones rain
happened in Surabaya.

Scientists all over the world tried to find solutions to deal with fossil fuel problems by using
alternative energy. Alternative energy, such as solar panels, wind power, hydropower, etc, are
an eco-friendly energy source with unlimited resources. Alternative energy is used to reduce
the usage of fossil fuel, electricity generation, space, and water heating and cooling,
transportation. Alternative energy is applied in household appliances, factories, and electric
vehicle charging and it can be used in our daily lives.
Alternative energy usage is suitable to solve the fossil fuels problem because alternative
energy produces little to no greenhouse gasses. It is called clean energy and works by
producing power without having negative environmental damage.

However, there are some advantages and disadvantages of using alternative energy. The
advantages are reduced global warming, infinite resources, less air and water pollution,
stability of energy prices. The disadvantages are higher upfront cost (the installments of solar
panel, wind turbines), not 100% carbon free, geographic limitations, inconsistent energy
produced as alternative energy depends on the weather.
The implication of alternative energy use for our environment is environmental safety. Using
wind, water and sunlight as the energy sources don't produce harmful carbon dioxide
emissions that lead to climate change. Economically, the use of alternative energy costs less
and has a stable price. If we use fossil fuel and it is scarce, the price will increase. Political
impact defined as the government policies and regulations the growth, supply and general
effect of renewable energy. For health and education, the usage of alternative energy is
improving as there will be less air and water pollution which can lead to better health and
lower health care bills. It is also about access to education to protect the environment.
Education enables us to learn and get more ideas about how to live a sustainable life. Social
and cultural factors that are impacted by alternative energy are poverty elimination, climate
change mitigation, socioeconomic status.

In conclusion, alternative energy is one of the best solutions to save the Earth. As the purpose
of which we were created is to protect and maintain our Earth, we should at least reduce the
damage that we’ve made to this Earth. Even Though alternative energy is not 100% carbon
free, it is still a better solution than doing nothing about it. However, we might find some
difficulties by using alternative energy because of the changing weather. It would be a better
solution if we combine the usage of alternative energy with plant-based materials such as
biogas generators, biofuel and biogas gensets. Saving the Earth should be our top priority.
