Mr. Akang ies with it a
certain sense of fulfillment esp-
ecially looking back at the ma-
ny challenges that characteriz-
ed the period in focus: 2005/
2006. Thus, it is to the eternal
credit of the students whose faces
this landmark document capt-
ures that they came, saw and
conquered at, perhaps the most
trying period of our existence
as a school.
With the pioneer set, a legacy
of hard work had been laid in
Hillcrest High. Successive gene-
rations will come to grapple
with a system insisting on stand-
ards, some very intimidating.
The second set courageously
lived the legacy and indeed
added a new paradigm to
hard work- discipline. The hall-
mark of our third set of gradu-
ants has been determination,
thus, they have provided what
I view as the third leg to the tripod
with which we hoist our vision,
“awareness through knowledge”.

There is something unique abo-
ut the 2005/2006 Hillcrest High
graduants. It is with very fond
memories that one recalls tho-
se periods in the classrooms;
their endless questions and so-
metimes those pranks! The ple-
asure of having helped nurture
them is unmatchable as every
teacher who has taught them
will readily attest to. Theirs was
a culture of “read to lead” and
leaders they are indeed set to
be. Perhaps, their set produced
the best behaved student ever
in Hillcrest High. They were not
lagging behind in sports. Some-
times they would beat host tea-
ms in some events right in their
own back yard with understan-
dable audacity. Doubtless, their
visit to the Oban Hills, their peer
educators training programme
and HIV ands AIDS awareness
education will ensure that they
do not lose out when the real-
ites of the larger society begin
to confront them in future. Am-
ong them were some of the
best sports men in Hillcrest High.
It is expected of a book of this
nature to give information even
on a student’s private life. This
edition of the Hillcrest High

yearbook has sufficiently lived up

to that expectation. One can not
help feeling a bit emotional after
listening to these beloved students
especially touching on their aspir-
ations for life. Yet, their virtues and
abilities have never been in doubt
and so, one can very sincerely
say that this generation of grad-
uants will sustain the Hillcrest High
legacy. Amen!

Omini was born in Port Harcourt to
Arc. John Omini and Mrs. Isu Omini
both of Ekori in Yakurr Local Govern-
ment Area of Cross River State.
