DANGER Signals a precaution which, if ignored, could result in serious or fatal personal injury. Great caution should be exercised in performing procedures preceded by DANGER
Headings.
The precautionary measures itemized below should always be observed when performing repair/maintenance procedures.
DANGER
1. ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE PRODUCT FROM THE POWER SOURCE AND PERIPHERAL DEVICES PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR
PROCEDURES.
2. NO WORK SHOULD BE PERFORMED ON THE UNIT BY PERSONS UNFAMILIAR WITH BASIC SAFETY MEASURES AS DICTATED FOR ALL ELECTRONICS
TECHNICIANS IN THEIR LINE OF WORK.
3. WHEN PERFORMING TESTING AS DICTATED WITHIN THIS MANUAL, DO NOT CONNECT THE UNIT TO A POWER SOURCE UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO.
WHEN THE POWER SUPPLY CABLE MUST BE CONNECTED, USE EXTREME CAUTION IN WORKING ON POWER SUPPLY AND OTHER ELECTRONIC
COMPONENTS.
WARNING
1. REPAIRS ON EPSON PRODUCT SHOULD BE PERFORMED ONLY BY AN EPSON CERTIFIED REPAIR TECHNICIAN.
2. MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE SOURCE VOLTAGES IS THE SAME AS THE RATED VOLTAGE, LISTED ON THE SERIAL NUMBER/RATING PLATE. IF THE EPSON
PRODUCT HAS A PRIMARY AC RATING DIFFERENT FROM AVAILABLE POWER SOURCE, DO NOT CONNECT IT TO THE POWER SOURCE.
3. ALWAYS VERIFY THAT THE EPSON PRODUCT HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SOURCE BEFORE REMOVING OR REPLACING PRINTED
CIRCUIT BOARDS AND/OR INDIVIDUAL CHIPS.
4. IN ORDER TO PROTECT SENSITIVE MICROPROCESSORS AND CIRCUITRY, USE STATIC DISCHARGE EQUIPMENT, SUCH AS ANTI-STATIC WRIST STRAPS,
WHEN ACCESSING INTERNAL COMPONENTS.
5. REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING COMPONENTS ONLY WITH THOSE COMPONENTS BY THE MANUFACTURE; INTRODUCTION OF SECOND-SOURCE ICs OR
OTHER NONAPPROVED COMPONENTS MAY DAMAGE THE PRODUCT AND VOID ANY APPLICABLE EPSON WARRANTY.

ADJUSTMENT
When the platen is replaced, the parallel adjustment must be performed in the following
order.
1. Set the release lever on the friction position (the most rear side.)
2. Insert CR Guide Shaft holding tool into the hole of CR Guide Shaft.
3. Move the carriage assembly to the center of the platen and then set Platen Parallelism
Measuring Fixture on the carriage assembly.
4. Move the carriage assembly to the right hand side until the center of the Meauring
Fixture locates at 80 Column then reset Fixture to “0” to push the reset button.
5. Move the carriage assembly to the left hand side until the center of Meauring Fixture
locates at 1st column, and read indicated value.
6. Repeat process 5 to 6 until indicated value becomes within 0.02mm.
(Difference between left and right must be less than 0.02mm.)
NOTE: During adjustment, the CR Shaft Gear must be held by CR Guide Shaft
Holding tool not to return.
The tools requred in the platen gap adjustment are; The adjust gap lever and the guide CR shaft must be firmly held by fixture.
o Motor Driver 6. Recheck Platen Gap has been adjusted within specification, after securing the hexagon
o Motor Driver Bit (Hezagon)
nut (normal, M4).
o Thickness gauge (0.33 : 0.36) NOTE: Adjust Gap Lever must be set on 2nd position.
If the guide CR shaft or adjust parallel bushing is rotated or reassembled, or printing is too NOTE: If Platen Gap is out of specification, repeat process 4 to 6 until Platen
faint or stained, the Plate Gap adjustment must be performed in the following order: Gap becomes within specification.
1. Set the adjust lever gap on 2nd position where is 2nd square hole from bottom on the NOTE: Platen Gap: 0.33→OK, 0.36→NG
left frame assembly.
7. Remove Platen Gap Adjustment stick and Adjust Lever Holding Fixture.

4. Turn the guide CR shaft using Platen Gap Adjustment stick to adjust platen gap (PG).
5. Permanently secure the hexagon nut (normal, M4) to fix the adjust gap lever.
1. Connect the printer and the host DOS/V computer with a parallel interface cable.
2. Set the 10 inch width continuous paper to the printer.
3. Run the adjustment program in the host computer.

n As this adjustment program is just same as the check program in
the factory and includes many other check items which are not
needed for service, you should not perform any items which are
not described in this manual. Otherwise, the printer functions
are not guaranteed.
n The factory setting value is not installed into the EEPROM
without this FF paper printing.
10. The main menu appears. Move the cursor using “↑” or “↓” key to select “(2) FF

The influence that oil and grease give is great especially in low temperature. NOTE: Lubrication must be applied during the reassembly process.
Therefore, EPSON has been tested and analyzed various oil and grease exten-
sively and chooses the best one for that print.
