I can see that Garuda is
waiting to take you back
Bhakti-yoga, Kṛṣṇa promises He will
reciprocate with love. So if we take one
step to Kṛṣṇa, He takes ten steps
towards us. So we are very glad that
people are taking many steps today!
We are very fortunate that the Godāvarī
river is here, which is non-different from
the Ganges. And Lord Caitanya
personally visited here. So you also have
the beautiful Deities. I see that Garuḍa is
ready to carry you back to Godhead!
So, we will do the different ceremonies.
And you have to be very careful to
follow seriously.

It’s a gradual process
You see in material life there is some
happiness and there is lot of distress. So
we want people to also to develop the
spiritual taste, spiritual bliss. And when
one gets attached to serving Kṛṣṇa then
we get bhava which is ecstasy in serving
Kṛṣṇa. How many of you want to have
ecstasy in serving Kṛṣṇa? Very nice! It is
a gradual process, it may take many
years to awaken your spiritual ecstasy.
But that is why you go step-by-step and
you see Kṛṣṇa and you get kṛṣṇa-prema.

My purvasrama mother
suggested this
My purvāśrama mother she said, ‘Why do
you give these free? You should auction
them.” One clay pot auctioned for a
thousand dollars! 80,000 rupees – one
pot! But recently, someone at some other
place gave 5,000 dollars for one pot! That
was in Bengaluru. The pots they had
auctioned they got a total donation for
the temple of 30,000 dollars. So
everybody gets a little pot free. But the
big ones are auctioned. The small they
can eat but the big pots they give out the
prasāda to eat. Anyway, this prasāda is a
very inspiring sevā.

Prasadam without an
expiry date
Rāghava Paṇḍita and his sister are famous.
They would prepare prasāda which don’t
have expiry date. Some preparations have an
expiry date of one year. Some expiry date for
six months. I once went to a temple in
Nāthadvāra, Nāthajī, in Rajasthan. The
pūjārīs, do not get any allowance. But they
get a percentage of the prasāda. So, the
pūjārī would identify, this is one year, six
months, three months, one month. Then he
showed me some raita with yogurt and
vegetables – this has expiry date 3-hours,
then it will be gone.
And like that when Lord Nityānanda came to
Pānihāṭi, Rāghava Paṇḍita was very happy to
see Lord Nityānanda. And he asked how
many people are there with You? Alright,
take a bath in the Ganges and in one hour I
will have cooking ready for 50 people. And
he would send to Jagannātha Purī every year,
bags of prasāda. They were famous
Rāghava’s jhālis. And for one year the
preparations were sent and some would be
one year, some would be six months and so
on. He knew how to make sweet from
Ganges mud. You have to be very expert to
make an edible sweet from Ganges mud.
Rādhārāṇī got the blessing from Durvāsa Muni that
whatever She cooked would be nectar. So, Mother
Yaśodā, the queen of Vraja said, Rādhārāṇī has to
cook for my son because it tastes nectar. In this way,
every day Rādhārāṇī had to cook for Kṛṣṇa. So
cooking is a very special service. For installed Deities
we want the cooks to be second initiated. So, here we
saw that many people are cooking very expertly.

Body gives happiness but
it is limited
Real happiness is not from the body. This
body gives some happiness, but that is very
limited. But the happiness of loving Kṛṣṇa is
unlimited. And we heard that women are
advanced because they can easily accept the
Supreme Personality of Godhead. But with
men it is sometimes seen that they become
a bit puffed up and do not want to bow
down before God. Of course, not here!

It’s the humans that
mess it up the Supreme
living entity
We are all alive, living people. And Kṛṣṇa is
the Supreme living person. Whether He is
Kṛṣṇa, Jagannātha, Bālājī or Nitāi-Gaura. All
the people are eternal, nityo nityānāṁ. But
the body is temporary. The body will die.
But the soul never dies. So, among all the
eternals, there is one Supreme eternal.
That is Bhagavān. Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad
says, eko bahūnāṁ yo vidadhāti kāmān.
One person, He feeds everyone else. From
the ants to elephants, everyone gets food.
But the human beings mess it up. Anyway,
the more you can remember Kṛṣṇa, the
more you can be Kṛṣṇa conscious, the
more you will get perfection.

Having connection with wife
or husband is not sinful
I was asked to bless a baby. In the Sat-kriyā-
saṁskāra-dīpikā there is a ceremony called
garbhādāna-saṁskāra. If one does
garbhādāna-saṁskāra according to the Vedas,
Kṛṣṇa says it is non-different from Him. So,
having connection with husband and wife for
child through garbhādāna-saṁskāra is
devotional service. Of course, if one has
connection with the husband or wife, it is not
sinful, not bad karma, but it is not devotional
service without garbhādāna-saṁskāra. So, we
can do devotional service in various ways.

The first hugging Guru
Lord Caitanya gave the ecstasy of loving
Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa did not give it so easy! But
Kṛṣṇa as a devotee, as Lord Caitanya, He
gave it freely! Here He gave out what
He did not do in Navadvīpa! When He
saw people on the street, He would hug
them and by embracing them, they
would cry in ecstasy of love for
Godhead. He was the first hugging
guru! Now there are imitation hugging

gurus! But they don’t give love for
Godhead.

Even by reading quarter

verse of Bhāgavatam we get
special mercy
We see how by reading even a verse,
half verse, even a quarter verse of
Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam we get special
mercy. And those houses who keep the
Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and read it
regularly every day, those houses are
not different from places of
pilgrimage. Haribol!

If a person accepts the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam as his life and soul
then he becomes most intelligent. Even if the person was
foolish earlier, but if he takes shelter of the Śrīmad-
Bhāgavatam he becomes most intelligent. Actually, the
Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is a priceless jewel. Parīkṣit Mahārāja
Please take wanted to know how life can become successful. And he was
by the will of Kṛṣṇa fortunate to get the association of Kṛṣṇa
shelter of Srimad and hear the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. So, we should understand
Bhāgavatam what the real value of life us and get the knowledge of Śrīmad-
Bhāgavatam into our brain.

It didn’t rain when they
did a Karma Kanda yagna
In Tirupati there was a three-year drought in
Andhra Pradesh and how they had a 108 kuṇḍa
fire yajña. The priests were doing karma-kāṇḍa
sacrifice for rain. They produced lot of smoke
but no rain. Śrīla Prabhupāda he came to the
twin cities and started the harināma-yajña. That
is the yajña recommended in the Vedas. Then it
rained for seven days! Śrīla Prabhupāda kī jaya!
So, like this, Śrīla Prabhupāda came to
Hyderabad and the twin cities, he was very
impressed by this city.

Srila Prabhupada was under
the stairway, kneeling down
One time he was standing at a light and there
were thousands of bugs going around. Then
we were wondering why Śrīla Prabhupāda was
watching the light for. Śrīla Prabhupāda turned
around and said see the bugs are flying
around, but no accident! We have radar in our
airports still there are accidents! Like that, one
devotee was a night guard to protect Śrīla
Prabhupāda. That devotee felt he was being
watched by someone. He looked around with
his flashlight, his torch. And he looked under
the stairway, there was Śrīla Prabhupāda!
Kneeling down. He stood up and said, I was
just checking up on you! So, like that Śrīla
Prabhupāda, he was very spontaneous, we
never knew what he would do!

This is how Srila Prabhupada
can be in your house
There are about 400 versions of the
Bhagavad-gītā. So Śrīla Prabhupāda was
asked which version do you recommend? I
cannot recommend any version he said. In
every version the writer changed something.
But we have Bhagavad-gītā As It Is. Last year
something like over two million copies of
Bhagavad-gītā were sold in the month of
December. So, Śrīla Prabhupāda he spent
every night staying up, translating Bhagavad-
gītā, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Caitanya-
caritāmṛta, Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu,
Īśopaniṣad and many other books. How
many of you would like to have Śrīla
Prabhupāda in your house? If you have Śrīla
Prabhupāda’s books in your house, then you
have Śrīla Prabhupāda in your house! So we
also recommend everybody to read the
books of Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Srila Prabhupada hits
the rock
In South India someone came out after
hearing a lecture by a Māyāvādī sannyāsī. And
so one ISKCON devotee asked the person,
how was the lecture. Very nice! Very nice!
What did he say the devotee asked. I don’t
know what he said! How can I understand
what a great sannyāsī speaks?! That is the
difference – when Śrīla Prabhupāda spoke his
idea was communicated, hits the rock.

Srila Prabhupada called
me at 1am
Sometimes he called me at 1 or 2 in the
morning. The secretary used to come and
knock on my door. “Yes!” “Śrīla Prabhupāda
wants to see you.” I would wash my feet,
face, mouth and run downstairs to Śrīla
Prabhupāda. I would see Śrīla Prabhupāda
sitting and he had a mosquito net over him.
He would be translating the Śrīmad-
Bhāgavatam from Sanskrit to English and he
would be dictating his purports. From 12
midnight to about 3 or 4 in the morning he
would be translating. He would tell me what
was on his mind and then let me go. But the
point is that he did such a sacrifice sitting up
and translating his books and giving
purports. I don’t know how many of you
have been reading his books. But we want
everyone to read his books so that way you
can associate with Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Indira Ekadasi Glories

Yudhishthira Maharaj said, "Oh MadhusUdana, Oh killer of the Madhu demon,
what is the name of the Ekadasi that occurs during the dark fortnight (krishna paksha) of the
month of Ashwin (September-October)? Please describe its glories to me."

The Supreme Personality of Godhead,

Lord Sri Krishna then replied, "This Holy
day is called Indira Ekadasi. If a person
fasts on this day, all his sins are eradicated
and his forefathers who have fallen into
hell are liberated. Oh best of kings, one
who simply hears about this sacred
Ekadasi achieves the great merit earned
by performing a horse sacrifice.

 Philosophically we can understand that every living
entity is an individual, and individually everyone has to
practice Krishna consciousness to traverse back to home,
back to Godhead. As stated in Garuda Purana, someone
who is suffering in hell cannot practice Krishna
consciousness, because this requires some mental peace,
which the reactionary tortures of hell make impossible.
What to give priority in life
So, the question here is what is given as a
priority in life? In this material world getting
some high post is better or eternal service to
the Lord? Now the whole world is seeing how
Queen Elizabeth II passed away. She was 96
years old and she was still in her position as
the monarch of the UK. And 19th September
all the world leaders will come to see her on
her final journey. Actually, people think
holding a position for so long is glorious. But
Parīkṣit Mahārāja when he heard he had
seven days to live, he immediately decided to
take fully shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa. He could have
counteracted the curse of the brāhmaṇa boy.
But he decided to take shelter of Kṛṣṇa. The
sages said that this nothing surprising,
because this the culture of the Pāṇḍavas.
They always took shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa.
The present leaders, they don’t know the real
goal of life is to go back home back to
Godhead. We heard how the president of
Zimbabwe who is also in his 90s is holding on
to his position. We heard how a Prime
Minister in his next birth took birth as a dog
in a rich man’s house. As a rich man’s dog he
will get nice food and a nice massage! If this
is what people think is the goal of life, that is
what they get. Parīkṣit Mahārāja was in such
an elevated position that his goal of life was
to attain the eternal service of the Lord. So he
wanted to hear the glories of Lord Kṛṣṇa, he
wanted to achieve the eternal shelter of
Kṛṣṇa. He asked all the rishis who were
present, how he can attain the lotus feet of
the Lord in seven days? Haṭha-yogīs, they
said that you have to learn a lot of yogic
postures and sitting positions, so seven days
are not enough.

If a relative of a sinner suffering in hell gives
some charity in the name of the sinner, he can
leave hell and enter the heavenly planets. But if
the sinner's relative observes this Ekadasi fast
for his suffering kinsman, the kinsman goes
directly to the spiritual world, as stated in this
narration based on Brahma-vaivarta Puranam.

Like that all the different rishis they thought that
seven days is not enough. But then the son of
Vyāsadeva, Śukadeva, he arrived. Parīkṣit Mahārāja
asked the same question to Śukadeva Gosvāmī as
well. He said seven days! It is a long time! You can
achieve perfection even in a moment. The secret is
to take full shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa and hear the
pastimes and qualities of the Lord. And to hear
about the glories of the devotees of the Lord. Parīkṣit
Mahārāja, he asked various questions to Śukadeva
Gosvāmī. And Śukadeva Gosvāmī answered those
questions. And thus, in seven days Parīkṣit Mahārāja
heard the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Parīkṣit Mahārāja
sacrificed his life to hear the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
This Bhagavad-gītā is available now. And Śrīla
Prabhupāda he translated this and wrote. He wrote
in English and that was translated by His Holiness
Bhakti Cāru Swami in Bengali. And translated into
many different languages, by different people
around the world. So, we should listen to the
Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. And Śrīla Prabhupāda said that
the whole Bhāgavatam was meant for the followers
to read. Rather than having some high political
position, we should want to achieve the highest goal
of life, the eternal service of the Lord. Unfortunately,
people do not realize what the real goal of human
life should be.
