Select or input the correct hours of operation for the business.

Do not select any set of hours unless you

verify them on an official web page or social site operated by the business; you can use the website
provided or if it's missing, not working, or not matching to the business you will have to go find one (try
the Search Tool). If no hours are on the business website, try to find an approved social page. Navigate
website menu options to find the hours or use web and site: searches in Bing and Google (or alternate
like Baidu) to see if the business does list hours on a difficult-to-access part of the website.

Do not use the hours listed directly on Google or Bing. Don't use unapproved social pages or
unclaimed review sites or aggregators, either.
We want a matching website that is almost always a dedicated Company Website (CWS) or an approved
Social Page (usually Facebook but may also be Dianping, Ctrip, Practo if claimed, Ekiten, Hotpepper,
Gnavi, Tabelog, VK, OK). The page should match to the provided entity name and the provided address.
Use hours from Social Pages only if they have posts from the business owner and within 365 days.

Sometimes you will have to enter the hours yourself (tips) because the correct business hours are not
given as an option. If this is the case, choose 'Values above are missing or wrong, I found this:' and fill in
the hours table. Try using the Beta Feature (instructions below) – it can save a lot of time!

If hours are on the business website and on a usable social page and the hours differ, use the business
website hours. Be prepared to use store/branch locators for big companies, and we prefer you link to
the specific branch page (if available) rather than the main page as your 'HOO URL'. If the website does
not give hours for a particular day, that means the business is closed on that day.

We do not want to use business hours if they can only be found on Google/Bing or from unofficial
aggregators like Yelp (when the page is unclaimed), dandb.com, vitals.com, or various other low-
quality pages that may appear in search results.

Some businesses have multiple sets of hours, and it can be difficult to determine which should be
selected. There are a few general principles to keep in mind to make it easier to decide.

You should select the hours belonging to the primary point of contact for a business. For a car
dealership, that would be the sales department. The primary activity of this business is selling cars.

If the entity name indicates a department, you will need to make sure you select the hours for that
department, if department-specific hours exist.

If the department does not have specific hours listed, then the main hours for the overall business
should be used.

For some businesses, they will have two or more departments that could equally be seen as the primary
point of contact. For a place that serves pizza, it’s hard to say whether we would want to see the
delivery hours or the carry-out hours. For a fast-food place, there’s the drive-thru hours and the dine-in
hours. You should select Unable to Verify for businesses like these when they have differing hours.

If you can find evidence that the business closed permanently / ceased operating, make sure the hours
for each day are marked as closed. To input this manually, mark every day as Closed in the table.

Hours Entry Pointers

To enter midnight opening times, input ’0’ and press tab (it auto-fills to ‘12:00 AM’); to enter midnight
closing times, enter ‘24’ and press tab (it auto-fills to ‘End of Day’). Pressing tab advances you through
the hitapp options, while shift + tab takes you in reverse. To select the radio buttons with your
keyboard, use the space bar. Also, if you are trying to enter hours manually but cannot, remember that
you have to input an HOO URL first; then you will be able to input the hours. Also we ask that you
always use the 24x7 radio button option if the establishment is operating 24x7 (24 hours a day, 7 days a
week).

Beta Feature Instructions

Copy hours from the website and paste them into the beta tool box and apply them. This is much faster
than typing them in manually!
Often you will have to fix the hours text in the paste box before applying, to make the tool interpet the
hours correctly – these instructions and examples can show you how to do that.
If your fix doesn't work, you can mark every day as Unable to verify in the table, then improve your fixes
and apply them again. Be sure to check the results in Step 2. It might be faster to make final changes in
the table. (Hours will be converted to a 12 Hour Clock automatically.)

Basic Format
Day: Hours-Range or Day Hours-Range. Variations are permitted as you can see in the Examples section
below.

Rules
Remove Extra Words. Delete words like "Hours", "Lunch", etc. Also delete disclaimer text telling you to
call to verify hours, giving details about last seating, etc.
Use Day Names. The tool cannot understand words like "Today 9am-2pm" and "Tomorrow 9am-
2pm" so change the words to the correct day names. If today is Wednesday, this would
become "Wed 9am-2pm" and "Thurs 9am-2pm". Day names can be full "Monday" or abbreviated
"Mon", but not plural so not "Mondays".
Mark Missing Days as Closed. For any day not listed on the website, you can type the day in as closed in
the text box, or you can manually select Closed for that day in the table, after you apply the hours.
Remove Dates. The tool cannot understand dates like "Jan 10 7am-4pm" so delete the date portion.
Make sure to keep or add the day of the week. This would become "Tues 7am-4pm".
 Use a Dash Between Day Ranges. Change words like "through", "to", "until", etc. to a simple
dash. "Monday through Friday 8am-6pm" would become "Monday - Friday 8am-6pm".
Use a Comma For Discontinuous Days. Change words like "and", "&", etc. to a comma when it indicates
the hours apply to more than one day. "Tuesday & Saturday 11am-3pm" would
become "Tuesday, Saturday 11am-3pm".
Separate Additional Sets of Hours With a Space or Tilde. For multiple ranges of hours on the same day,
leave off "and", "&", "|", etc and use only a space between them. So "Wed 7:30am - 1pm & 2pm -
5:00pm" would be "Wed 7:30am - 1pm_2pm - 5:00pm" (it also works with a tilde "Wed 7:30am -
1pm ~ 2pm - 5:00pm").
Use a Colon or a Space Between Day Name and Hours. The beta tool cannot understand things like
dashes or semicolons as in "Mon; 10am-6 pm" or "Mon - 10am-6 pm" so change it to a colon as
in "Mon: 10am-6pm" (or leave it off/use only a space "Mon_10am-6pm").
Use a Colon Between Hours and Minutes. The beta tool cannot understand things like dots/periods
between hours and minutes as in "7.30 am" so change it to "7:30 am".
All 12 Hour Clock Ranges Need AM or PM. Hours like "6:00" won't work without "a.m." or "p.m." on 12
Hour Clock Ranges, so change it to "6:00 am" or "6:00 pm" (do not use "a.m." or "p.m." on 24 hour clock
ranges).
Remove Extra Letters Next to Hours. Remove the 'h.' in "Dilluns a Dijous de 09:00-13:00h." to
read "Mon-Thurs 09:00-13:00" and it will work.
Use the Word "Everyday". Change words like "Daily" to"Everyday".
Use "12 pm". Change words like "Midday" or "Noon" to"12 pm" (this is 12 on a 24 Hour Clock).
Use "12 am". Change words like "Midnight" to"12 am" (this is 24 on a 24 Hour Clock).
Manually Enter Lunch Breaks. The tool cannot support carve-outs for lunch time closures, so you have
to type them.
Change Non-English Words to English. The beta tool does not recognize non-English days of the week,
so type over any weekday names with the English translation. Simliarly, words like "Cerrado" have to be
changed to "Closed".
