PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

The name of the organization that I will be referring to is Real Life Students Ministry; it
is a part of a larger organization called Real Life Church. A youth ministry is a
department dedicated to meeting young people's spiritual, social, and developmental
needs—the students attending the youth group range from 7th grade to 12th grade. The
primary aim of our youth ministry was to provide a supportive environment where young
students can grow in their faith, deepen their understanding of religious teachings, and
encourage personal relationships with other teenagers, their leaders, and their faith. The
Real Life Students Ministry has many activities, including worship services, Bible
studies, prayer groups, retreats, community service projects, and social events. These
activities foster spiritual growth and a sense of belonging within our church community.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

Real Life Student Ministry provides opportunities for leadership development,

mentorship, and guidance from adult leaders who serve as role models and mentors. Two
years after I graduated high school, I returned and stepped into the role of a youth leader
volunteer. As a youth leader, I nurture young students' spiritual and personal
development. Serving as a spiritual mentor, I guide them in their faith journey through
Bible studies, discussions, and teachings on topics relevant to this stage in their young
lives. I aim to create a welcoming environment where youth feel comfortable expressing
themselves, connecting with others, and exploring their faith. When needed, I provide
emotional support and sometimes crisis intervention, empowering my students to take
ownership of their faith and circumstances. In addition to offering spiritual guidance and
support to our youth, I contribute to the youth group experience by planning and
executing social and recreational events. These events foster fellowship among the
students, build community bonds, and promote personal growth.

1
As part of this commitment, I take a hands-on approach to organizing various activities
that appeal to our youth's interests and needs. This includes coordinating worship services
for students who enjoy music, planning parties that celebrate milestones or occasions, and
organizing retreats, where I have witnessed students experiencing moments of reflection,
renewal, and spiritual deepening.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

I was tasked with organizing a graduation party for senior students in our youth group,
wanting to showcase our pride in their achievement and bid them farewell as they
transitioned from the youth ministry. These seniors, who had been part of our group since
7th grade, were role models and leaders among their peers. Despite expressing my
eagerness to plan a memorable event, I faced challenges when my youth director
unilaterally announced a different date for the party without consulting me. Despite this
setback, I proceeded with planning, and had several deliverables ready to present the day
of the party. However, a month before the agreed-upon date, my youth director organized
an impromptu party, poorly executed and devoid of meaningful elements, leaving the
seniors disappointed. When I voiced my concerns to the lead pastor, my youth director
stated that I failed to communicate effectively, forcing her to take over the youth
graduation party project. This experience highlighted the importance of clear
communication and trust in collaborative projects.
