1.0 THEORY
Discovered by Edwin Hall in 1879, the Hall effect refers to the occurrence of an electric field when a
conductor carrying an electric current is positioned in a stationary magnetic field. Perpendicular with respect to the
current flow as well as the magnetic field's alignment, the voltage vector across the conductor is termed Hall
voltage (UH) after its discoverer.
1. Reference the first cylinder (in terms of fuel injection start, knock control, ignition control) in
coordination with the crankshaft sensor
The output of the Hall sensor could be recognized by square shape signal of Voltage vs Time graph as shown in
Figure 2 below:
Electronically Control Brake System Diagram is as shown in Figure 3. Meanwhile, Parts location
illustration is as shown in Figure 4.

2. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
(a) Do not remove or install electronically controlled brake system parts such as the steering angle sensor,
yaw
rate and acceleration sensor or brake pedal stroke sensor except when required, as they cannot be adjusted
correctly after removal or installation.
(b)Be sure to perform preparation before work and confirmation after work is completed by following the
directions in the repair manual when working on the electronically controlled brake system.
(c)Be sure that the power switch is off when removing and installing the ECU, actuator, each sensor, etc.
unless
it is specified otherwise in the inspection procedure.
(d)If the brake booster with master cylinder (skid control ECU and brake actuator) or a sensor has been
removed and installed, it is necessary to check the system for problems after the parts have been reassembled.
Check for DTCs using the Techstream, also check that system functions and signals received by the ECU are
normal using Test Mode.
(e) If the brake pedal is depressed before the brake control system is prepared to operate, the pedal stroke
may
seem unusually long or short. This is due to the fact the stroke simulator cut solenoid has not yet operated and is
not a malfunction.
After the power switch is turned on (IG) or the brake pedal is depressed twice or more, the stroke simulator will
operate and the brake pedal stroke will remain consistent. SETTING THE
VEHICLE
3. Ensure stable point is positioned to the vehicle lifter arm to prevent roll & fall.
4. Always keep lift area free of obstructions, grease, oil, trash and other debris.
5. Lift the vehicle about 0.5m height to unscrew all the wheel nut of all tires. NEVER raise vehicle with
anyone inside it.
7. Lift the vehicle until the maximum height of student (Technician assistance is required). Make sure the
hear locking sound of the lifter before starting the next procedure.
8. Find the wheel speed sensor at front wheel according to the illustration in Figure 5.
6
7
10. Repeat step 8 to 9 to the rear wheel.
11. Connect EBDII to scanner tool socket to the DLC (Diagnose Link Connector) on the vehicle.
13. Set up the EBDII scanner tool and enter the vehicle information (Make & Model).
16. Capture the picture of trouble code and insert it in appropriate section in Appendix.
17. After the error has been found, find the faulty part.
18. Capture the actual condition of the faulty part and insert it in appropriate section in Appendix.
19. Repair it, and capture the photo of it after countermeasure step is taken and insert it in appropriate section
in Appendix 1.
4.0 RESULTS
You should explain the following items that related to your Lab activity (Use pictures to complement your
answer where appropriate):
i. Identify correct experimental setup specification to be used for this activity (Use Table 1 in
Appendix 1).
ii. Arrange step-by-step procedure (flowchart with caption) of ABS Vehicle Layout check.
iii. Capture ACTUAL picture of vehicle wheel speed sensor (FR LH/RH & RR LH/RH).
iv. Using Scan Tool, check the ABS system on the vehicle. Arrange step-by-step procedure
(flowchart with caption) of the checking process.
v. Troubleshoot the simulated ABS System error. Point out the error location at the vehicle. Arrange step-by-
step procedure (flowchart with caption) of the troubleshooting process.
