Many teenagers work during the school holidays to earn some money. Here are
some skills that teenagers could learn to earn some money during their free time.
These skills could be learned through observation, hands-on learning, extensive
reading, or trial and error.
A good tutor is always in demand. So, in the classroom, teenagers can observe
and watch closely now an effective teacher conducts the lesson. Then, they can
choose a subject that they enjoy learning. They should learn it well before they start
tutoring others.
Teenagers who like to do sewing and handicrafts can learn hands-on by watching
tutorials on YouTube. They can give the items they have made to their friends and
neighbours as gifts. Later, they can sell the items to earn money during festive
seasons.
Next, teenagers can develop writing skills through extensive reading. Reading all
kinds of books, magazines and novels can help one to write clearly and creatively.
Then, they can send their work to newspapers and magazines to earn some money.
Some skills are best learned through trial and error. One example is baking.
Teenagers should feel free to experiment baking cakes, pies, cookies and bread. Then,
they can ask their family and friends to give their honest opinion after tasting them.
Once they get the best feedback and result, they can start selling. Social media can be
a good platform for them to promote their goodies.

Good morning, boys and girls,

I am glad to be able to give a talk on 'The Consumer and His Rights' today.
Are you aware that we are all consumers? A consumer is anyone who pays for a
product or service. As consumers, we must know our rights.
A consumer's first right is the right of choice. Consumers should have the
right to decide which product or service is best for him. Consumers also reserve
the right to return or reject a product if it is not to their satisfaction or is not what
they wanted.
The second is the right to be informed. Producers should be responsible
enough to provide accurate information about the product or service. Consumers
should have easy access to prices, expiry dates - especially for perishable goods
- and also information about the ingredients used.
Consumers also have the right to purchase products that are safe and
reliable. The testing of products and the determining of their safety standards,
which is already being done by SIRIM, is one way of granting consumers their
rights. Consumers should not be forced to make do with products that may be
dangerous.
So, boys and girls, now you are aware of your rights as consumers. By
being aware of our rights, we can be rest assured that we will not only get quality
products and services but also that we will not be victimised by traders.
Thank you.
