The Joy of Camping

The Nature Society in my school organizes camping trips frequently. All members
look forward to these trips. Though the aim of these camps is to expose us to the natural
environment, I think they also inspire us to do something to preserve it.
The recent camping trip I went was a lot of fun. After pitching our tents, members took
part in a trek that lasted three hours. While trekking, we asked questions about the plants and
animals we saw and the guide answered them patiently. We saw leeches and insects of all
shapes and colours, trudged through muddy stretch and even crawled through some thick
vegetation.
At dinner, we gathered around the campfire. We talked about the animals and plants
we saw during the trek. I learnt some interesting information about giant millipedes well as the
unique flora. We also talked about our experience getting stuck in the mud and getting the
leeches off our legs. The guide shared stories about his experience, some were thoughtful
while others are funny.
The following day, we woke up for a very early breakfast. I was especially excited
because we were going to go on one of the longest flying fox trail. I had goosebumps all the
way of the trail. The other members were excited too but they were afraid. I had tried shorter
flying fox trail before so I knew what to expect. I volunteered to go first. It was such a trilling
ride.
Later that day, we gathered around the campfire again. We decided to try popular
campfire activities, roasting marshmallows and telling scary stories. When one story got a
little scary we took turns talking about our experience. We also talked about what we could do
to help the environment. We stayed up very late.
The next morning everyone packed quietly. The mood at the campfire was dull. As we
bid our guide farewell, he wished us well and asked us to share our experience with more
students.
