The Covid-19 pandemic brought shift in the world education system. According to the
covid.go.id page, until January 20, 2022, there have been more than 4.2 million covid cases
in Indonesia. During a pandemic like this, the use of virtual classes for the next semester is
the right choice. The use of virtual classes greatly reduces the possibility and risk of being
exposed to the current virus. Online learning has its advantages, so you can learn from the
comforts of your home. As we know, today's learning is very dependent on technology,
Online classes give different ways of teaching tools such as audios, videos, audiovisual
presentations, and webcams, so this makes both students and teachers more familiar with
technology. We are in the 4.0 era, where knowledge and skills of technology are very
important to be mastered in order to keep up with the flow of globalization. Opponents
offline classroom is important to encourage and motivate collaborative learning.
Collaborative learning increases student's self-awareness about how students learn and
enables them to learn more easily, and transforming them into keen learners inside and
beyond the classroom.
The next advantage of online learning is that students can save on their living costs. Students
can save on living costs such as not having to pay boarding fees, no need to spend money for
daily meals, no need for transportation costs and costs for buying clothes and makeup,
considering that students can wear any clothes so most of them are willing to spend a lot of
clothes. With online learning can be done at any time by simply logging into the internet
from their home, office, or even their local coffee shop. In contrast, offline learning is carried
out at a predetermined location, students are needed to travel to the training location, a lecture
hall, college, or classroom. With offline learning, so it's easier to ensure students are paying
attention to the studies.
With online learning, students and teachers benefit from a more flexible approach. Being
unrestricted in regard to location and times means every learner can benefit from the courses.
The flexibility offered by the online education gives particular categories of students an
important opportunity to meet their educational needs. on the other hand, the advantage of
offline learning consist in offering student direct contact with teachers. Face to face
communication allows students to ask question concering their classes. Students are also able
to meet with their classmate, and developing friendship.
therefore, in my opinion online learning would be a more effective choice. The internet and
information technology has endless possibilities. Both students and teachers will benefit a lot
if they take advantage of the power of the internet in the classroom.
