1. Introduction

The Smart Socket is an innovative gadget that makes use of Internet of Things
(IoT) technology to increase user accessibility and convenience for home
automation. It is made to connect to a Wi-Fi network at home and allow
customers to utilise a smartphone app or voice commands to regulate the power
supply to any plugged-in electrical item.

With the help of the Smart Socket, customers can control their electrical
appliances from a distance, keep tabs on their energy usage, and even create
schedules for automated activation or deactivation. This enables people to
conserve energy, lower their utility costs, and greener their houses.

The Smart Socket does this by combining elements from a combination of

hardware and software. To enable remote control and monitoring of the
connected electrical appliance, it generally consists of an ESP8266 Wi-Fi module,
a relay module, and a power supply module. The relay module manages the
power supply to the connected appliance, while the ESP8266 module enables the
item to connect to the home Wi-Fi network. The power supply module makes
sure that the gadget receives a consistent voltage supply, allowing it to operate
effectively.

2. Objective

The goal of designing and developing smart sockets that can be controlled by a
smartphone app and voice commands is to provide users with a convenient and
easy-to-use home automation solution. With the prevalence of smartphones and
smart home devices, smart sockets represent an innovative approach to making
homes smarter and more efficient.

Smart Socket improves energy efficiency, reduces utility bills and makes users'
lives more convenient by allowing users to remotely control and monitor
electrical devices using smartphone apps and voice commands. We aim to The
device is designed to connect to his home Wi-Fi network, allowing the user to
control it from anywhere with an internet connection.

Overall, the goal of this mini-project is to demonstrate the potential of IoT

technologies to transform the way we interact with our homes and devices. By
developing smart sockets that are easy to use, reliable and efficient.

3. Block diagram and Functional description

Smart Socket is designed to allow users to remotely control and monitor electrical
devices via smartphone apps or voice commands. Plug the device into an
electrical outlet and it will be powered by the mains and ready to use.

The Smart Socket's microcontroller is programmed to read and interpret user

commands via the Wi-Fi module. When the user sends a command via a
smartphone app or voice assistant, the microcontroller processes the command
and sends a signal to the relay module to turn the device on or off.

The Smart Socket's relay module is responsible for providing power to the
connected device. When the microcontroller sends a signal to turn on the device,
the relay module turns on the device and allows the device to operate. Similarly,
when the microcontroller sends a signal to turn off the device, the relay module
cuts power to the device and stops its operation.

Smart Socket's Wi-Fi module allows your device to connect to your home Wi-Fi
network. Once connected, the smart socket can be remotely controlled via a
smartphone app .

4. Circuit diagram and its description

ESP8266 WiFi Module:

ESP8266 is a low-cost Wi-Fi module widely used in IoT applications. Connects
the smart socket to his Wi-Fi network at home, allowing remote control and
monitoring of connected devices.

Relay module:
A relay module manages power delivery to connected devices. It acts as a switch
that can turn the device on or off based on commands received from the
microcontroller.

Power module:
The power module ensures that the smart socket receives a constant power supply
so that it can work effectively. This is typically a transformer that converts the
mains AC voltage to a lower DC voltage suitable for microcontrollers, relay
modules, and other components.

Circuit board:
A printed circuit board (PCB) is used to connect all the components in a smart
socket and provide a platform for mounting components.

5. Working of Project

We used the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module, relay module, and power module to design
and develop the smart socket. The ESP8266 WiFi module is a cost-effective WiFi
module that can connect to your home WiFi network. I used the Smart Socket to
connect to his Wi-Fi network at home.

Relay modules are used to control the power of electrical devices connected to
smart sockets. This project used a single channel relay module. A relay module
has three pins: signal, VCC, and ground. I connected the signal pin of the relay
module to the GPIO pin of the ESP8266 module.

The power module is designed to provide stable voltage to the ESP8266 module
and relay module. I used a 5V DC power module to power the smart socket. I
connected the power module to the VCC and ground pins of the ESP8266 module
and the relay module. A smartphone app was developed using the Blynk platform
to control the Smart Socket. The Blynk app allows users to remotely control her
smart socket from their smartphone. We used the MQTT protocol to
communicate between the ESP8266 module and the Blynk app.

6. Result/Conclusion
Smart Socket is a device for remote control of electronic devices. To test the
efficiency of our smart sockets, we connected them to various electrical devices
such as lights, fans, and TVs. It turns out that Smart Sockets can effectively
control the power delivery to these devices.

The Blynk App allows you to control your smart socket from your smartphone.
The app provided an intuitive user interface for controlling smart sockets, making
it easy to power on/off connected devices.

In addition to controlling the Smart Socket using a smartphone app, we also

tested it with voice assistants. We used the Amazon Alexa Skills Kit and Google
Assistant Actions to integrate the Smart Socket with voice assistants. We found
that the Smart Socket worked seamlessly with both voice assistants, enabling us
to control it using voice commands.

7. Future scope

Power consumption of every appliances equipped with socket can be monitored

by user throughout smart socket & if there is no one in a room where an
appliances is being used through our smart socket , then socket will cut the power
supply to the appliance , it will result in power saving if necessary is used
