CROCHET PATTERN
«Orange dragon»
The toy by Natalka Spiridonova
Materials and tools

- Any thin yarn 100g/450m, (I used Pekhorka Beaded,
white(01), green(480), orange(189)
The toy is crocheted in - For legs – wire (diameter 1.5 mm), can be without it

Tip (make it right) Abbreviations

If there are no special notes, the
Rnd - round
toy is crocheted under both parts
of the loop. In some rows, there
sc – single crochet
are special notes: ‘into the front
loop only’ or ‘into the back loop
inc – crochet 2 sc in one stitch
only’. In that case, you need to

Tip (shift stitch)
While working, you will need to keep the work symmetrical. As the work tends to twist to the
right you need to adjust the position of the marker periodically (beginning of round). If you notice
that the marker moves right, you need to work one extra stitch in the end of round and move the
marker for one stitch (now the 2nd st of the round becomes 1st). If you notice that the marker
moves left, you need to unravel one stitch (or more if eeded). This is shift stitch – it is not included
in the description of the rounds. Usually you have to do shift stitches every 3-5 rounds (depending
on the yarn, hook and our gauge). To check if it is time to work shift stitch(es) fold your work in
half and check if the marker still goes straight. You should keep the marker in a straight line
on some parts of the toy. Instructions for the marker are given in the description of each part of
the toy if needed
Head.
The yarn – orange color
1 rnd: 6sc in the magic ring.
2 rnd: 6inc = 12sc
3 rnd: (1sc, inc)*6ts = 18sc
9 - 15 rnd: 48sc (7 rows)
16 rnd: 9sc, 6inc, 33sc = 54sc. Place a contrasting yarn at the beginning and end of

17 rnd: 9sc, (1sc, inc)*6ts, 33sc = 60sc
18 - 20 rnd: 60sc. Follow the marker. If necessary, unravel or crochet the necessary
stitches (I crocheted 1sс).

you use safety eyes, install them between the 14th and the 15th rounds, where 6inc start
and finish.
23 rnd: (4sc, dec)*8ts = 40sc
26 rnd: (2sc, dec)*6ts = 18sc. Stuff.
27 rnd: into the back loop only - (1sc, dec)*6ts = 12sc
28 rnd: 6dec. Cut the yarn and hide the end

Legs (2 pieces)
1 rnd: 5ch, in the second loop – inc, 2sc, 3sc in the last loop, turn and crochet on the other
side - 3sc = 10sc
2 rnd: 2inc, 2sc, 3inc, 2sc, inc = 16sc
3 - 4 rnd: 16sc
5 rnd: 1sc, dec, 2sc, 4dec, 3sc = 11sc
6 rnd: 3sc, 3dec, 2sc = 8sc. Stuff bottom part of leg only.
7- 11 rnd: 8sc (5 rows). Cut the yarn
and hide the end

Arms (2 pieces)
1 rnd: 6sc in the magic ring
3 - 4 rnd: 9sc
6 - 10 rnd: 6sc (5 rows), leave a thread enough for sewing. Don’t stuff.
Body.
2 rnd: 6inc = 12sc
7 rnd: 36sc
8 rnd: 7sc of the body, crochet together 4sc of the leg and body, 14sc of the body,
crochet together 4sc of the leg and body, 7sc of the body = 36sc
9 rnd: attach the white thread - 7sc of
the body, 4sc of the leg, 14sc of the
body, 4sc of the leg, 7sc of the body =
36sc
10 rnd: the white thread - 36sc. Leave white thread tail ~ 1 meter length.
11 - 13 rnd: the orange thread - 36sc. Place wire frame inside legs. It is not necessary to
do. Measure the length of the wire on the legs. Bend tips of wire from both sides, wrap
adhesive tape around wire.
14 rnd: 4sc, dec, 7sc, dec, (1sc, dec)*3ts,
6sc, dec, 4sc = 30sc
15 - 16 rnd: 30sc
20 - 21 rnd: 18sc, leave a thread enough
for sewing. Stuff the body.

White lines
Crochet chains. Pull remained white thread tail out of the middle on front part of the toy
(use a needle), ch9, fix loop on top. Crochet 5 lines in front. There are no stripes on the
back.
Sew the head to the body
Sew the arms. I used wire. It is not necessary
to do.

Eyes.
Toy’s eyes are middle parts of such eyes. I
separate middle and main parts with the help of
needle.
I only use this brand of glue
Glue the eyes to the
head.

Tail
3 rnd: 9sc
5 rnd: 12sc
7 rnd: 15sc
13 rnd: 30sc, leave a thread enough for sewing.

Sew the tail to the body.
Spines
The yarn - green color.
Work on surface of the animal. I recommend you to make several stitches to mark places
for the spines.

Video lesson 3.
Take the green yarn and cut approximately 165cm.
Start working – 3 rounds above the eyes.
Attach the green thread and crochet – sc, dc, picot stitch (ch2, go back and make 1sl st),
dc, sc. Width of each spike – 4 rows. Distance between spikes - 4 rows.
Ears (2 pieces)
The yarn - orange color. Сrochet back and forth in rows
1 rnd: 3sc in the magic ring, but do not connect, turn, ch
2 rnd: 1sc, inc, 1sc = 4sc, turn, ch
3 rnd: 4sc, turn, ch
4 rnd: 1sc, dec, 1sc = 3sc, turn, ch
5 rnd: dec, 1sc = 2sc, turn, ch
6 rnd: dec, leave a thread enough for sewing.
Draw yarn through side line and pull out of
bottom.
Wings (2 pieces)
The yarn - green color. Сrochet back and forth in rows
1 rnd: 9ch, turn and crochet 8sc, turn, ch
Make a cut of wire (d. 1 mm) ~ 12 cm length, leave
a small tail and crochet sc around the wing.
7sc on 1 side
8sc on the other side
Turn the work; fold the wire in a half and

crochet sc around the wing in the opposite direction. As a result you made 15sc.
Insert the wings and sew them to the body.

Sew on the ears.
Step 9 rounds from the
beginning of the work.
The box.
The yarn - orange color. Use 2 threads simultaneously, it helps the work to keep shape.
Crochet hook №2 (or №2.5)
Box top.
We start crocheting with white yarn.
2 rnd: 6inc = 12sc
3 rnd: attach the orange thread (1sc, inc)*6ts = 18sc

13 rnd: attach the white thread 72sc. Do not cut yarn tail, you will crochet white stripes.
14 - 15 rnd: the orange thread - 72sc. Cut the yarn and hide the end
Crochet white stripes the same way (as you made on the dragon body). Length – 13ch,
distance between lines: in bottom – 9sc, on top – 2sc. Crochet 8 lines.
Main part.
2 rnd: 8inc = 16sc
10 rnd: into the back loop only - 72sc
11 - 14 rnd: 72sc
15 rnd: attach the white thread - 72sc
16 rnd: 72sc
17 - 33 rnd: the orange thread - 72sc,
leave a thread enough for sewing.
Sew the box top to the main part.
Sew the buttons, make button loops.

Orange slice (3 details).
We start crocheting with orange yarn.
1 rnd: 3sc in the magic ring, but do not connect, turn, ch
2 rnd: 3inc = 6sc, turn, ch
4 rnd: attach the white thread - (2sc, inc)*3ts = 12sc. Do not cut the white thread.
5 rnd: the orange thread - (3sc, inc)*3ts = 15sc. Embroider white lines.
Sew slices to the box
