Lesson Plan: Unwrapping Kindness and Compassion

Vocabulary Expansion
1. Emotion Vocabulary Activity: Hand out printed emotion vocabulary sheets. Ask
students to match the emotions with their definitions. Discuss the words and
encourage students to share personal experiences related to these emotions.

Instructions: Match the emotions with their definitions. Write the letter of the correct
definition next to the corresponding emotion.

Emotions:

1. Gratitude

2. Sympathy

3. Empathy

4. Compassion

5. Surprise

Definitions:
Gratitude: Gratitude is the feeling of being thankful and appreciative for something or
someone that benefits you in some way.

Sympathy: Sympathy is the feeling of understanding and caring for someone else's suffering
or misfortune, even if you have not experienced it yourself.

Empathy: Empathy is the feeling of sharing and experiencing someone else's emotions or
perspective, as if you were in their situation.

Compassion: Compassion is the feeling of wanting to help and relieve someone else's
suffering or distress, motivated by kindness and love.

Surprise: Surprise is the feeling of being startled or amazed by something unexpected or


unusual, which can be pleasant or unpleasant.
