3. The following figure shows a rechargeable battery of a digital camera.

(a) Look at the figure carefully and find out the voltage of this battery. (1 mark)

(b) If the battery is fully charged, how much energy is given to 2 C of charge passing
through the battery? (2 marks)

(c) The label ‘1100 mA h’ means that the battery can provide 1100 mA over one hour when
fully charged. If the camera operates for an hour at 1100 mA, how much charge has
passed through the battery? (2 marks)

4. The tungsten filament of a household electric lamp is a wire of radius 6  10–6 m. Under
normal operation temperature of the lamp, the resistivity of tungsten is 7.9  10–7  m. The
lamp is operated at 240 V and there are 9.375  1019 electrons passing through the lamp in
one minute. (Given the charge of an electron = 1.6  1019 C)
(a) If the lamp is operated at normal operation temperature, find
(i) the current passing through the lamp, (2 marks)

(ii) the resistance of the filament at this temperature. (2 marks)

(b) Determine the length of the filament. (2 marks)

e
(c) Why is it difficult to quote a value for the resistance of a filament lamp? (1 mark)
