PART-A (10  2=20)

Answer All Questions
(Each answer should have minimum 7 lines)
1. Write the two approaches of packet switching. R CO1
2. List out the five components of data communication. U CO1
3. The company has two computers connected by an Ethernet hub at home. Is this a LAN S CO1
or a WAN? Justify.
4. Assume six devices are arranged in a mesh topology. How many cables are needed? A CO1
How many ports are needed for each device?
5. Differentiate TCP and UDP. U CO1
6. Write the concept of address learning in layer 2 switches. U CO2
7. Identify the methodology to assign switch ports to VLANs. A CO2
8. What is channelization? List the types of channelization protocols. R CO2
9. Give the concept of PoE. Identify the applications and benefits of PoE. U CO2
10. Identify the commands for the scenario. A switch port allows only one host per port A CO2
and make sure the port will shut down if this rule is violated.

PART-B (Total=40 Marks)

(2  16=32&1  8=8)
Answer All Questions
(Each answer should be written for minimum 5 pages with minimum 25 lines per page)
11. A Describe about the requirements for building a network. U (16) CO1
(OR)
11. B Identify the network device that suits the formation of the network. Justify A (16) CO1
the same. Also explain the structure of the switch and switching process
with suitable illustrations.
12. A Write in detail about switching concept and verify the switching R (16) CO2
configuration.
(OR)
12. B With suitable illustrations discuss the steps to configure and identify the A (16) CO2
VLANs in detail.
13. A Calculate the total time required to transfer a 1.5MB file in the following A (08) CO1
cases, assuming an RTT of 80ms, a packet size of 1 KB data and an
initial 2 * RTT of “handshaking” before data is sent:
i. The bandwidth is10Mbps and data packets can be sent continuously.
ii. The bandwidth is 10 Mbps, but after we finish sending each data
packet we must wait one RTT before sending the next.
The link allows infinitely fast transmit, but limits bandwidth such that only
20 packets can be sent per RTT. Zero transmit time as in (c ), but during
the first RTT, we can send one packet during the second RTT we can send
four (23-1), etc
(OR)
13. B Demonstrate the MAC protocols that are used in both wired and wireless S (08) CO2
networks and explain in detail.
