Scene 1

Mohit – It was a solace winter day when a young woman Della was at her house counting her
savings. She lived with her husband Jim who worked at a fast food restraunt.

Jiya – When they moved in first Jim earned enough money to live comfortably. But now they have
fallen into bad times. Della had been keeping aside money for their groceries. She was sad and
anxious because despite of her efforts she couldn’t save enough money.

Mohit – She had been hoping to buy Jim a present for Christmas.

Pahal – (Count savings) Pause…. Oh no! I don’t have enough savings to buy Jim a Christmas present.
What shall I do?

Jiya – Della gets stressed and begins to cry.

Pahal – Crys…… after a while…… cleans face….. looks out of the window and thinks… looks at a dingy
mirror and gets an idea.

Pahal – lets down her long brown hair and admires it for a while.

Mohit – Della’s hair notable for her beauty, was her prized possession.

Scene 2

Jiya- Della is going to Madame sofroine’s salon with nice and long hair

Krishya- hello dear Della ! What brings you here my child?

Della- Madame sofroiene I wanted to talk to you about something important

Krishya-yes dear ! np

Della – Madame sofronie as you know after a year of shifting here ,jim and I faced many financial
problems . this year I really wanted to buy jim a Christmas present but I can’t because of the financial
issues we facing.

Krishya –let me give you a hair cut and you can go with the money I will give to but a present

Della- thank you so much !Madame sofronie ….she shows excitement and hope

Mohit – madame sofronie cuts della’s hair and gives della a few amount which helped della a lot

Scene 3

Della goes searching in the market

Jiya – she then enters a shop which has watches and its accesssories

Tirth – hello ! can I help you with anything?

Della exclaims- yes! This is the perfect shop I wanted to find !can I have this platinum chain

Tirth – yes you can it is around 100 dollars

Mohit- della pays the amount and gets elated…she returns home

Scene 4

Jiya- on the otherside jim was also in the same market planning to spend all his savings and his
prized possession to buy della a set of jewelled tortoiseshell combs .

Jim- This is a beautiful comb which would be the perfect Christmas present for della

Tirth – you can buy this comb for 100 dollars

Jim- lets’ go! Its definitely worthwhile

Mohit- jim buys the comb and returns home

Scene 5

Della is waiting at her house for Jim to return

Pahal- I am so excited to see Jim’s reaction to his new platinum chain for his pocket watch

Jiya- jim returns home

Mohit- ding dong

Della – hi jim how was your day at work

Jim- it was superb …ummm I have got something special for you it is a Christmas present

Della- oh that’s exciting but I feel that I have got something more special for you !

Jim- oh wow! But wait what’s wrong with your hair…why is short

Della- oh well I had an haircut to get money to buy this present for you

Jim- oh that’s gr8…I would definitely love it

Jiya- they both exchange their gifts

Della- oh wow ! The comb looks great but now I am not left with long hair…at least my gift would be
useful to you

Jim- ummmm…rather it wouldn’t because I have sold my watch to buy you this comb for your
beautiful long hair

Della- oh ! so we lost everything just to give Christmas presents to eachother

Jim- {add}

Mohit- wow! They have just demonstrated the true form of selfless love. Wouldn’t you agree?

Jiya- they seen even wiser than the 3 magi who brought gifts to the baby jesus on the first Christmas
eve.
