DPM 33 (Solutions)

C to E

C. RC Passage

Explanation:

1. As the total passage is about sunspots, it is better to verify every option individually to
arrive at the answer.

Option A: incorrect because, though the passage mentions that 1980 as the year since when we
have information about the correlation between sunspots and solar energy, we do not have the
comparison of frequency of sunspots before and after 1980.
Option B: incorrect because the passage directly says that during sunspot formation, there is
increased solar activity.
Option C: correct because the first two sentences of the second paragraph support this
inference.
Option D: incorrect because during the Ice Age, sunspots were almost absent.
Choice (C)

2. For this type of question, we need to identify the correct options and eliminate them.

Option A: incorrect because the author is likely to agree with this information as per the second
sentence of the second paragraph.
Option B: incorrect because the discussion on aphelion and perihelion supports this view.
Option C: incorrect because the passage mentions that higher magnetic activity of the sun
results in higher number of sunspots.
Option D: correct because sunspots have far less effect on global temperatures than seasonal
changes in tropics — we can understand this by comparing the percentages given.
Choice (D)
3. The passage mentions the Little Ice Age, which experienced very low temperatures when no
sunspots were observed. The middle part of the paragraph gives the explanation by invoking
cosmic rays. However, the last sentence casts doubt on this hypothesis. Thus, Option A, which
mentions this, is the best option.

Option A: correct as per the reasons given.

Option B: incorrect because the last sentence actually questions the validity of the explanation.
Option C: incorrect because the last sentence talks about cosmic rays, not about sunspots.
Option D: incorrect because this sentence does not talk about sunspots.

SOLUTION:

Solutions for questions 1 and 2:

1. Cost = 8, Selling price = 10, Tax = (12.5/100) x 8 = 1

So, the total cost = 9, Profit = 10 - 9 = 1, Now Tax = (12.5 x 10)/100 = 1.25
The total cost = 9.25
Selling price = 9.50
Profit = 0.25. Percentage decrease in profit 75%. Choice (D)

2. Let the earlier sales be 10 pens

Government revenue at the old tax regime= 10 x 1= Rs10. Now, sales have increased by 10%,
to 11 pens and the tax per pen = 1.25
 Total government revenue = 1.25 x 11 = 13.75

Increase = 37.5% Choice (B)

720 =(24) (32)(5), 240 = (24)(3)(5), 120 = (23) (3)(5),
As 720, 240 and 120 all have 2, 3 and 5 as their only prime factors coprime to any of these is
also co-prime to each of the other two
Number of positive integers less than 240 and coprime to720

No. of positive integers less than 120 and coprime to 720

1 1 1 1 2 4

Required no. of positive integers = 64 - 32 = 32 Choice (B)

Let the speeds of P, Q and the initial speed of R be p, q, r respectively (in km/hr). From 10:00

Here, given𝑓(5) = −124 = 1 − 53 ⇒ 𝑓(𝑥) = 1 − 𝑥 𝑛 = 1 − 𝑥 3
So, 𝑓(9) = 1 − (9)3 = −728 Answer is (-728)

x = (1125)225log x = 225 log (1125)
log x = 225 log (9000/8)
log x = 225 (log 9000 – log 8)
log x = 225 [log (32 x 103) - log (23)]
log x = 225 [log 32 + log103 – 3 log2]
log x = 225 [2 log3 + 3 - 3 log2]
log x = 225 [0.9542 + 3 - 0.9030]
log x = 225 [3.9542- 0.903] = 225(3.0512) = 686.52

Solution for the questions 1 to 4:

The given data can be represented in the following Venn diagram.

It is given that 10 students like only Maths and only White  k = 10

Of the total 25 students who like both the colors, 5 like none of the two subjects
 b+g +j+n= 25 and n = 5
 b +g +j = 20 ……… (1)

The total number of students who like white is same as that who like English and that is 55.
 (b + g +j + n) + (c +f + k + m) = 55
 c + f + k + m = 30 …….. (2)
and (a + b + c + d) + (h + g + f + e) = 55
It is given that those who like both the colours (b + g + j + n) =those who like both the subjects
(h + g + f + e) = 25
 a + b + c +d = 30 …….. (3)
Of the students who like only English (a + b + c +d = 30), 50% like both the colours.
 b = 15
It is given that among those like only Maths, no one likes both the colours  j = 0
From (1), b + g +j = 20g = 5.
Among those who like both the subjects those who like both the colours is equal to those who
like none of the colours
g=e=5

All those who like neither of the colours, like Maths, and there are 10 students who do not like
any of the two colours.
 e + l = 10 and d = 0
l=5

Among those who like only black those who like Maths is same as those who like English and in
this category, no one likes both the subjects.
∴ a = i, and h = 0
We know that e + f + g + h = 25 f= 15
All the students who do not like any of the two subjects like black.  m = 0
From (2), c + f + k + m = 30
c = 5
From (3), a + b +c+ d = 30
 a = i = 10

Since, the total number of students is 100 and there is no one who like neither of the colours as
well as neither of the subjects, p = 15

Thus, we get the following diagram.

1. The number of students who like neither of the subjects but likes both the colours is n = 5
Choice (B)

2. The students who like white as well as English= b +c +g + f = 40. Choice (A)

3. The students who like only black and English is a = 10. Choice (D)

4. The students who like none of the two subjects is p + n + m = 20. Answer is (20)
