DPM 3 (Solutions)

C to E

C. RC Passage

1. (A) is not true; the Rockefeller foundation (refer seven sentence of para 1 ) being a case in
point. (B) is true, as per the last sentence of the passage. (C) is the supporting point. (D) is a
sweeping statement.
Thus Choice (B) is correct. Choice (B)

2. “Active advocacy role” in the third sentence of the first para supports (A) . “Did they just have
tea?” in the latter half of para 2 supports (C) .“business methods” in the sixth sentence of para 1
supports (D). “wreck havoc” in the sixth sentence of para 1 negates (B)
Thus Choice (B) is correct. Choice (B)

3. The Rockefeller Foundation and League of Nations example is taken to illustrate the fact that
charitable institutions today on account of their vast endowments which dwarf the funds
available to public institutions, are beginning to displace/interfere in the working of public
institutions. So from the penultimate sentence of the first paragraph (........started to displace the
latter and complicate their activities…………), only choice (D) can be inferred.(C) is not
necessarily true today. ( It may have been true in the past). Choice (A) is a sweeping
generalization. The U.N has functions other than just dealing with philanthropy. So, choice (A)
is incorrect. Choice (B) is out of context.
Thus (D) is correct. Choice (D)

4. The author supports “well-run” multilateral international institutions”.

Thus choice (C) is correct. Choice (C)

Solution-1:
To distribute the drinks to the greatest number of children, the drink with the least cost must be
purchased in the greatest number, i.e., if Deepak purchases 7 bottles of Mountain Dew and one
bottle each of Pepsi and Miranda a total of 9 bottles are purchased, and each bottle he can
distribute to 10 children.
∴ With 9 bottles, 90 children can have one drink each.
Ans.: (90)

Solution-2:
Let the chili powder cost Rs. 100 per kg. The cost of 15 kg is Rs. 1500.
So, the retailer gets 16 kg for Rs. 1350 (10% discount) and he sells 16 kg at Rs. 1600.
∴ He gets a profit of Rs. 250 on every 1350 of C.P.
250 14
Profit Percentage = 1350 × 100% = 18 27 %

Option(D)

Solution 3:
Monika pays the market price + 15% sales tax = (1.15).(2650)
Deepak pays 90% of the marked price = (0.9).(2650)
The Difference = (0.25).2650 = 662.50
Option (D)

Solution-4:
The biggest measure which does not yield any remainder in any of the 3 vessels is the HCF of
323, 437 and 532, i.e. 19.
323 437 532
The required number is 19 + 19 + 19 = 17 + 23 + 28 = 68

Ans.: (68)
Solution-5:

Given that ratio of speeds of A and B is 9:7. So by the time ‘A’ completes 9, he has gained a
lead of 2 rounds over B, i.e. rounds he meets B 2 times. Hence to meet for the 17 th time, A
should travel 153/2 i.e. 76.5 rounds.
They meet exactly diametrically opposite to P for the 17th time i.e. 200 m. from P.

Option (A)

Alternative Solution:

For A to meet B, he must gain 1 full round over him. When A covers 4.5 rounds, B covers 3.5
rounds. Therefore the first meeting point say Q is diametrically opposite to P and hence their
second meeting point will be at P.
Hence odd numbers meetings are at Q and even numbered meeting points are at P itself.
The 17th meeting point is 200 m from P.

Solution-6:

The last digit can be one from any of the five digits 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 and the third digit could be any
of the ten digits.
∴Number of vehicles whose started with 12 is 10x5 = 50
Similar number of vehicles whose number started with 17 is 50.
∴ Total number of vehicles to be checked = 50+50 = 100
Ans.: 100

Solution-7:
Let the number which was added twice be x and let us say the student has added all natural
numbers unto n.
𝑛(𝑛+1)
We have, 2 + 𝑥 = 1213
𝑛(𝑛 + 1) + 2𝑥 = 2426
If n =47, n(n+1) + 2x has a maximum value of 2256. Even this maximum value is less than
2426.
∴ 𝑛 > 47.
The possible value of n, the corresponding values of 2x and n(n+1) are tabulated below:

N 2x n(n+1)
48 74 2352
≥ 49 Negative ≥ 2450

n must be 48.

2426 − 2352
∴𝑥= = 37

Ans.: (37)
Solution-8:
sec 𝜃 and tan 𝜃 are the roots of the equation 4𝑥 2 − 12𝑥 + 𝑎 = 0
 sec 𝜃 + tan 𝜃 = 12/4 = 3
 sec 𝜃 – tan 𝜃 = 1/3 ( because 𝑠𝑒𝑐 2 𝜃 − 𝑡𝑎𝑛2 𝜃 = 1 )
Also sec 𝜃. tan 𝜃 = a/4
Now (sec 𝜃 + tan 𝜃)2 − (sec 𝜃 – tan 𝜃 )2 = 4sec 𝜃. tan 𝜃
1 𝑎
 9 − 9 = 4. 4
80
𝑎= 9

Option (D)

Solution-9:

Grouping the 1st and last term, the 2nd term and the 2nd from the last term, and so on….we get

𝐸 = (83 + 3743 ) + (93 + 3733 ) + … … … … . (1903 + 1923 ) + 1913

Each term in parenthesis has 382 as a factor

[𝑎3 + 𝑏3 = (𝑎 + 𝑏)(𝑎2 − 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏2 )]
∴ The remainder need is that of the division
1913 191 × (2𝑘 + 1)
= 𝑅𝑒𝑚 = 1(191) = 191
382 382

Option (C)

𝑝𝑥 2 + 𝑞𝑥 + 𝑟 = 0, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑜𝑜𝑡𝑠 = = −6
𝑝
r = -6p……… (1)
Given that 9𝑞( 4𝑞 − 𝑟) + 𝑟( 21𝑞 + 𝑟) = 0
36𝑞2 − 9𝑟𝑞 + 21𝑟𝑞 + 𝑟 2 = 0
 36𝑞2 + 12𝑟𝑞 + 𝑟 2 = 0
 (6𝑞 + 𝑟)2 = 0
 r = -6q………..(2)
from (1) and (2)
r = -6p = -6q
 p = q……..(3)
𝑝𝑥 2 + 𝑞𝑥 + 𝑟 = 0 can be written as 𝑝𝑥 2 + 𝑝𝑥 − 6𝑝 = 0
𝑥 2 + 𝑥 − 6 = 0( 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑝 ≠ 0)
 (x+3)(x-2) = 0
 x = -3 or 2

Q3. 83.33
Q4. 9

Solutions for questions 1 to 4:

Total votes cast in round 2 = 65

 Total votes cast in round 1 = 64
A+ C in round 1 = 32
But total votes cost in round 3 would have been 66 whereas it is Just 59.
So, 66 – 59 = 7 members are not eligible.
7 members who voted to D in round 1 voted for A in round 2.
19 - 7 = 12 members form 75% of members who voted to A in round 1.
(12/75)x 100 = 16 members voted to A in round 1.
 16 members voted to C in round 1.
No of persons who voted for C in-round 2 = 26 (16 + 5 (who voted for D in round 1) + 4 (who
voted for A in round 1 + 1 member representing city D).
37.5% of 16 = 6 members who voted for A in round 1 voted for C in round 3.
=> the remaining 10 members voted for B. Votes cast for B in round 2 = 65 – 19 – 26 = 20
∴ Votes cast for B in round 3 = 30, But given that the difference in votes in round 3 is 1
 29 and 30 votes respectively. B got 30 votes and C got 29 votes.

1. (7/12) x 100 = 58.33% Ans : (58.33)

2. 16 votes cast for C in round 1. Ans : (16)

3. 10 members voted for B and 12 members who voted for A in round 3 were eligible to vote in
round 3. Required percentage = (10/12)x100 = 83.33 % Ans : (83.33)
4. 7 members who became eligible because they have voted D in Round 1 and voted A in
Round 2 (both of which did not contend in Round 3) and the two members representing ‘B’ and
‘C’. Ans: (9)
