People from the past had fought and risked their lives to give our nation and its citizen a
sense of direction toward a better, brighter, and more promising future. These significant and
influential individuals engage themselves in revolutions, rebellions, and mutiny to attain
independence and sovereignty for our country. And now, their legacy and sacrifices had
provided us the privilege to live in a free and democratic nation. Thus, leads us to the 21st
century, wherein is the era of modernization, and still in the progress of building a relevant and
prominent society and creating a sense of national identity.

Rights to Accessible and High-Quality Education – Education in the 21st century is still
beyond the reach of most individuals here in the Philippines, especially for Filipinos who barely
make ends meet. Despite the campaign advocacies, revisions, and modifications for this civil
right, it remains a continuous social issue for many developing countries including ours. It is
supposed that education is not a privilege but rather a right of all. Further, education is a
fundamental step if we want to build a significant change. As it empowers our knowledge and
awareness of certain aspects of life. Through education, we are able to learn and gain new
ideas, insights, and information that can be utilized to express and initiate actions for ourselves.
Thence takes us to a different level of self-discovery and enlightenment, which contributes to
our development as responsible and concerned citizens essential for building a prosperous
nation.

Recognition of Historical Significance – One of the most forgotten but condemned to repeat
is History. Sometimes, we are too immense on what is happening in the present, and what will
occur in the future, that we forget our tragic past. Because of our lack of recognition, we
Filipinos become ignorant and insensitive, which makes us take the bait of false and misleading
historical information, resulting in history repeating itself. This situation is quite current in the 21 st
century. If only Filipinos are able to appreciate, understand and learn from the historic past, our
nation will foster and grow.

Political Awareness and Consciousness – Politics and good governance are building blocks
of the sovereignty of a state. Unfortunately, as time passes by, the Philippines’ political system
had fallen abused and misused, hindering the potential of achieving nation-building. Therefore,
Filipinos who are knowledgeable in political context are less to be at a disadvantage as they are
aware of the laws and rights being practiced. As well as their consciousness helps navigate
political issues that might be solved if appropriate action is determined and implemented, Hence
benefiting the country.

Youth Engagements and Participations – “Ang Kabataan ang Pag-asa Ng Bayan”, this
infamous quote of Dr. Jose Rizal had brought a significant impact on the youth and society.
Throughout the years, they’ve become passionate, courageous, and fearless. Seeing the
youth’s recent engagements and participation in the past years shows their determination and
dedication to give the nation a hopeful and auspicious tomorrow. Thus, indeed their intelligence
and initiatives are the nation’s key to success.

Highlights Sense of Patriotism – At present, economic development is more emphasized than

acknowledging the sense of patriotism. Everything is modernized, and globalization had paved
its way up to the contemporary world. We became interconnected with other people and more
engaged in all the regions of the globe. However, this is also the time to bring back and
recognize our national identity as Filipinos. Starting with oneself, taking pride in our own race
and blood, respecting and valuing history, cherishing cultural roots and heritage, supporting
locals, solidarity, willingness, and oneness for the nation is the best we can do to prove and
promote our nationalism and patriotic love for our beloved country.
