CUT

1. Place the 3" square in the center of the 12" x 16" quilt batting rectangle.

2. Using 1 ½" scraps begin sewing strips on each side of the 3" square. Do this by placing a 1 ½" strip on top of
the 3" square edge, right sides together. Sew from edge to edge using a ¼" seam allowance. Flip and press the
1 ½" strip and use a small pair of scissors to trim excess to square up edge. (This is similar to the quilt as you go
method, however we are leaving off the thermal batting & backing for now to reduce bulk.)

3. Continue adding the scrap strips going around the square clockwise until all of the batting has been
covered by fabric strips. Trim the edges back to 12" x 16" and top stitch ¼" away from the trimmed edge to
keep bias edges straight.
4. To finish, spray baste all four layers together. Place the backing fabric right side down, thermal batting,
and then quilted batting right side up. Quilt as desired and apply binding to finish edges.
