Artificial insemination Methods
1. Recto-vaginal method
• Most use in large animals e.g Cattle.
• The semen loading in insemination gun.
• The inseminator insert one hand in rectum.
• the hand inside rectum hold the cervix.
• The A.I gun insert into vagina and direction by other hand.
• Semen deposit in uterine body.
• after depositing the semen the gun is remove.
2. Spectrum method
• Spectrum is place in the vagina.
• Provides passage to the site of
insemination.
• Inseminating tube is passed through the
spectrum.
• Semen is deposit at the cervix.
3. Vaginal method
• Semen is deposit in the vagina, as close as possible to the entrance of the cervix.
• Using mostly in small animals.
• The ewe should be position with the rear elevate at a 45° angle.
• The technician uses a vaginal speculum and a light source to visualize the
entrance of the cervix.
• The inseminating dose for this technique is 200 to 400 x 106 spermatozoa and
the volume of 0.2mL.
4. Laparoscopic Insemination
• Semen is deposit directly in the uterine horn of the female.
• The procedure is surgical.
• Using in ewes or goats.
• Animals fasting for at least 12 hours before.
