Is green tea really good for weight loss or is it just a

hype?
Most people, who are hooked on to the “calorie and fat burn” trend, treat their morning cup of green
tea to be the elixir to a slimmer, fitter frame. They are right in a way to assume that the positive
health benefits from consuming this nutrient rich beverage, makes them feel energetic and more
active. But to expect green tea to magically trim off your excess belly fat would lead to nothing but
disappointment.

It is true that high concentrations of catechin polyphenols found in green tea can spike up your
metabolic levels, inhibit the body’s fat absorption by regulating glucose and insulin, suppress your
appetite by keeping you full longer, and absorb excess triglycerides. All these are critical to burning
fat effectively but the amount of fat burn is modest and some studies have shown no change in fat
burn rate from regularly drinking green tea.

What green tea does best is influence other aspects of your lifestyle that prove more influential in
your weight loss in the long term. Enjoying green tea in the morning and as a late afternoon/early
evening drink, ensures that you stay away from sugar laced coffee, desserts, sodas, canned fruit
juices, or any “fillers” that cause more harm than good. It keeps you full and active curbing your
cravings for sugar or excess carb-rich foods.

If there is any fat that green tea burns, it is the visceral fat (fat around your organs) and not much of
the “visible” subcutaneous fat (fat under the skin). Visceral fat is harmful and causes inflammation
and insulin resistance, both of which are strongly linked to all sorts of serious diseases, including type
2 diabetes and heart disease.

So green tea provides the most “healthy” alternative to other foods and provides some other
astonishing health benefits that make it ideal for being a part of everyday diet. Exercise and eat
healthy to boost its potential.
