A REPORT

THE DIVERGENT
PERSPECTIVE

ON 'HEALTH'
WITH VARYING
AGE GROUPS
Mansa Kaur
01 OBJECTIVE:
This investigation was not only just an assignment
to be carried out, but an exploration of
perspective and how it changes, enumerated by
polar ages. The common link tying their
propositions together was health. The subject of
health and how it varies from age to age was a
matter I was interested and fascinated by and
hence decided to take up this project.
Furthermore, it had a direct connection with my
academic syllabus which was my initial impetus.

This study was carried out to compare and

juxtapose health from different aspects, ages and
experiences.

HEALTH & AGE:

Whether you are in your sixties, or in your pre-
teen years, a conscious concern that is invariably
on your minds is health. The level of preparedness
for ageing or the wariness of your mind and body
growing during teenage are two ends of the same
stick.

Health is a concept that disregards age and is

present throughout your life-cycle; distinctive at
each stage.
02
METHOD:
The methodology I used to carry forward this study was
interviewing, followed by analysing the responses.

INTERVIEWING:
Watch the interview here
An interview is a one-on-one conversation between the
interviewer and the interviewee. Akin to a conversation,
an interview is a structured form of consultation that
allows you to express yourself and challenges your
thinking skills. With the exchange of information, views
and thoughts, interviewing is a transparent medium to
seek replies.
03 SUMMARIZATION & INSIGHTS:
Being healthy is the confident and
clean way of living.

Some (individual) inferences that I drew from the interviews

are:

Health is acknowledged as a very important factor in life for

both the younger and older generation.

Actual sports are preferred by the younger and old

generations, even though the younger generation invests
plenty of time and monetary resources in Digital
sports/video games.

Availability of clean food and water, a good environment to

live in, exercising and limiting the use of technology are
some necessities to be healthy.

Fresh produce is preferred by the younger and old

generations, as they are organic in nature.

Richer people are not always healthier and can exploit their
wealth in an unhealthy manner.

The younger generation enjoys the well-functioning bodies

they have been gifted with, which helps them stay active.

The older generation likes to interact with their

grandchildren and the clarity they gained with their age.

Both the generations feel like the healthy lifestyle affects

their health, with it being a must to be healthy.

Both the generations like to indulge in distractions, their

hobbies when feeling pressurized.

Both the generations agree that emotions have an impact on

physical health and vice versa.

The younger generation is reluctant in seeing Ayurveda and

homemade remedies as a cure due to the portrayal of it in
recent years, on the contrary, the older generation is a firm
believer.

(These are based solely on the interactions I had)

Both the generations value sleep and say that lethargy will
take over if the circadian rhythm is not maintained.

Both the generations think music affects your mood and

listen to it as a mood booster and a coping mechanism.

Both the generations prioritize mental health the most and

hold the mind in the highest respect.

The younger generations prefer a summer season, as they

get the opportunity to explore. While the older generation
likes a cool climate, as they enjoy the environment and feel.

The younger generations are in touch with older

generations, on a personal level.

The older generations try to interact with the younger

generations and feel like they are losing touch due to
technology.

The younger generation is not aware of the support

provided by the government and feels as if their family is
responsible for providing most of the resources and support.

The older generation is aware of the same and enjoys the

facilities given by the government.
04 CONCLUSIONS:
Some prominent aspects and the conclusions I drew from the
interviews are:

TECHNOLOGY
Technology has undoubtedly changed the world for the
better, but it is both a boon and a bane for us. With its
exponential advancement in recent years, technology has
had effects that have disrupted the balance of our lives
especially for the younger generations. The exploitation of a
tool like technology has led to several unhealthy habits.
Such as eye strain, headaches, neck pain, sleep problems etc.
all problems stemming from excessive screen time. While it
might have helped us immensely in operations, finding
treatments and our overall convenience, excessive of
anything, even technology has been detrimental to us.
Technology was invented to bring us together but is keeping
us distant. The medium of interaction has changed rapidly
and has affected our social health to a large extent, as we
are too indulged in digital form of interaction, rather than
the much needed physical face-to-face interaction.

MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health has been a trending subject in the past few

years and the level of awareness has increased plenty.
People are continuously learning about the mind and its
importance and are balancing mental health with physical
health, which was not the case before. The link of mental
health with physical health, our behaviours, moods and
relationships are also being established. The mental health
of many has been ruined during the COVID 19 crisis and the
advancement in technology, due to unnecessary exposure.
Mental health is slowly gaining more value and recognition
in all age groups. Although, misconceptions spread widely
due to miscommunication. The depth of conditions like
'depression', 'anxiety' etc are not understood and are
becoming household terms, used carelessly. This issue has to
be addressed and brought awareness on immediately or we
will risk devaluing the concept of mental health.
AYURVEDA & HOME REMEDIES
Ayurveda is losing its purity and validity with time, as it is
being more and more filtered and snatched away from its
true meaning. With the false portrayal of Ayurveda in media
and due to certain brands appealing in the name of
'Ayurveda' but not doing justice to its potential, Ayurveda is
not seen as a loyal form of treatment. When in reality,
Ayurveda can be that propulsion to make your lifestyle more
healthy as after all it is the most natural type of treatment,
originating milennials ago.

WEALTH & HEALTH

Survival of the richest is how society operates. Rich people

often exploit the facilities they are given, due to the
incentive they possess, although some benefit from it.
Affluenzic tendencies are often noticed in richer people, as
they have that sort all sorts of availability and access. As for
the poor, they are left malnourished and unhealthy because
the access, facilities and support they receive is minimal.

THE WAY AHEAD:

Throwing light on overlooked areas, this
investigation has been an eye-opener. I shall
express myself further on these and similar
topics by writing blogs and constantly spreading
information, one that is verified and right.
