A. LESSON PREVIEW/REVIEW
1) Introduction (2 mins)
How are you students? I hope you did a good job in your quiz last meeting. Today, we will discuss our topic
“When Technology and Humanity Cross”. This lesson deals with the impact of Technology on humanity and
society. Try to reflect how these technology advancements influence your daily lives.

B.MAIN LESSON
Activity 1: Content Notes (13 mins)

Pre-printed concept notes:

The ever-growing society has made people see technology as some form of necessity. TECHNOLOGY THESE
DAYS ENJOYS SUCH FAME AND GLORY BECAUSE OF THE MANY DIFFERENT BENEFITS IT BRINGS TO
HUMANITY. Some would even say that it does not only bring convenience but also pleasure and happiness to people.
This is because of the different leisure activities that technology can offer to people. In general, technology keeps on
progressing due to not only the changing times and environment but also to the EVER-PROGRESSING MIND OF
MANKIND.
A number of technological devices can be easily found inside the home, the most accessible place to anyone. A
typical household owns at least four of the following devices: a mobile phone (89%), smartphone (53%), tablet (14%),
desktop (39%), laptop or netbooks (37%), and smart TV (4%). These data prove the deep-seated fascination of Filipinos to
different technological devices.

Some facts about Filipinos and their use of gadgets and the internet:
⮚ Mobile phone subscription is at 119 million.
⮚ Filipinos spend approximately 3.2 hours on mobile and 5.2 hours on desktop daily.
⮚ Currently, the Philippines has one of the highest digital populations in the world.
⮚ There are now 47 million active Facebook accounts in the Philippines.
⮚ The Philippines is the fastest-growing application market in Southeast Asia.

Ethical/Moral Dilemmas Faced by These Technological Advancements:

✔Children become lazy and unhealthy.
✔Alienation, because people no longer take time to get out of their houses and mingle with other people.
✔People have the tendency to be unaware of the time because they are so engrossed with the use of technological device.
In fact, if they get disturbed, there is a great chance that they will get mad or annoyed.
Children who are not capable yet of rationally deciding for themselves what is right or wrong, are freely exposed to
different things on television, mobile phones, laptops, or computers. Because of the availability and easy access to the
internet, they can just easily search the web and go to different websites without restrictions.

Supplementary Articles:

Look, we all know the way we interact with technology is changing. Take smartphones
for instance. Buttons gave way to touchscreens, which were then supplemented by voice
guidance. Truly, relationship between humans and machines is evolving.
In fact, scientists believe that the relationship is being redefined through emerging
technologies, narrowing the division between humanity and technology.

The way I see it is that technology is starting to get more advanced than humans.
One day technology may replace humans, which is obviously very possible. These days
humans usually have smart phones, and smart phones do exactly what their name says. A
smart phone can be "smarter" than the average human, considering a smart phone can
access the web at any point of time. Technology has helped humans with lots of things
besides phones also. GPS, advanced cars, computers, and etc. In my own personal opinion
I think technology is great where it's at. Any more advanced than where we are may be
bad.
