Biohazard
• Field personnel must complete the safety training “Bloodborne Pathogen Program” before doing these
procedures.
• You must use NITRILE or NEOPRENE GLOVES when you clean the equipment.
Important
• Every 6 months: Do all procedures in the sequence indicated in the Service publications. Refer to Periodic
Maintenance Checklist, AG3345, for frequency of Preventive Maintenance.
• Ask the customer about problems with the equipment.

Important
You must use the Checking the Error Logs procedure in Diagnostic Tests for the KODAK DIRECTVIEW CR 825/850
Systems, DG4825-1.
[1] Do the Checking the Error Logs procedure.
Important
If you see more than one error code of the same component or assembly, you might have to install new parts or do
adjustments during this procedure.
[2] Do an evaluation of the error logs.
[3] Continue with Checking the Scan Operation.
Important
You must check the scan operation before de-energizing the system.
[1] Observe the scan operation or all cassette sizes and make repairs before doing preventive maintenance
procedures.
[2] Continue with Cleaning the Computer Filter.

[1] De-energize the system using the Energizing the
System procedure in the Installation Instructions
for the KODAK DIRECTVIEW CR 825/850
Systems, II4825-1.
[2] Remove the rear panel. See Rear Panel in the
Adjustments and Replacements for the KODAK
FILTER DIRECTVIEW CR 825/850 Systems, AR4825-1.
[3] Use the vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the
filter in the computer.
[4] Install the rear panel.
[5] Continue with Checking the CMOS Battery.

Checking the CMOS Battery
[1] Check the age of the CMOS battery by reading the replacement date on the label located on the PC. Replace
the battery if it is 5 or more years old.
[2] If there is no date label indicating the last time the CMOS battery was replaced, determine the approximate age
of the CMOS battery by referring to the manufacture date on the data plate of the CR Scanner and to the
following table of computer implementation dates:

[3] If the battery is less than 5 years old, attach a label to the computer console, and write the manufacture date
found on the data plate of the CR Scanner or the implementation date listed in the previous table, whichever is
more recent.
Note
Attach the label in a discreet place, but where the FE is likely to see it during the next PM visit.
[4] Replace the CMOS battery if it is 5 or more years old. Add a label to the PC with the replacement date. See:

cavity.
• Use care when cleaning mirror surfaces. Surfaces
are made of glass and reflective film mirror tape
and scratch easily. Use only canned air to remove
debris. See SB8J5790 for cleaning procedures.

Cleaning the Bar Code Reader
[1] If necessary, remove the cassette handling
assembly. See the Adjustments and
Replacements for the KODAK DIRECTVIEW CR
825/850 Systems, AR4825-1.
Caution
Use the vacuum cleaner to remove dust before using
the canned air.
[2] Use the vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the
bar code reader.
[3] If necessary, use the canned air to remove the
dust from the bar code reader.

[4] If the canned air does not remove the contamination from the bar code reader, clean the bar code reader with:
• lens cleaner solution, UNSP1C8000
• lens paper, UN952807
• Lint free cloth or a microfiber cloth if needed
Caution
Obtain the lens cleaner SDS or AIS and familiarize yourself with it before starting this procedure.
[5] Continue with Cleaning the Extraction Bar.
Caution
Use the vacuum cleaner to remove dust before using
the canned air.
[2] Clean the extraction bar with a lint-free cloth.
[3] Install the cassette handling assembly. See the
Adjustments and Replacements for the KODAK
DIRECTVIEW CR 825/850 Systems, AR4825-1.

[4] Continue with Cleaning and Applying Lubricant to

Do not apply spindle oil on the lead screw or nut. It will
destroy the casting can cause the slide to fail. Do not
apply ANY lubricant of any kind to the lead screw!
Caution
Obtain the spindle oil SDS or AIS and familiarize
yourself with it before starting this procedure.

[2] Apply 2 drops of spindle oil on each of the 2 slow
scan slides and wipe the oil along the slides.
[3] Rotate the lead screw up and down to distribute
Lead Screw the spindle oil across the surface of the 2 slow
scan slides.
Slow Scan [4] For the PCB configuration, apply at least 2 drops
Slide
of spindle oil in the holes on the carriage.
[5] For the Kerk Slide configuration, remove the 3
aluminum disks on the carriage and insert at least
2 drops of spindle oil in each of the 3 holes on the
carriage.
[6] Continue with Cleaning the Erase Lamp
Assembly.

[1] Disengage the latch.
LATCH [2] Pull the erase lamp assembly.
[3] Use a lint-free cloth to clean erase lamps.
[4] Use the vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the
erase lamp assembly.
[5] If necessary, use the canned air to remove the
dust from the erase lamp assembly.

[1] Turn off the computer and leave the UPS on.
[2] Press and hold the I/Test button for a few seconds.
The LEDs A, B, C, and D will turn on for several seconds depending on the battery charge level.
Note
If the batteries are in good condition, all of the LEDs turn on. If they are not all on, consider replacing the batteries
even if the Replace Battery LED doesn’t blink. See publication 8H9517.
Important
You must use the procedures in the Adjustments and Replacements for the KODAK DIRECTVIEW CR 825/850
Systems, AR4825-1, to do the adjustments.
[1] Do:
• fold mirror
• collector assembly
• CAM sensor board A8
• CAM motor assembly
• sled CAM follower
• clamp bar
• cassette end stop
• rear cassette sensor
• extraction bar home position
• plate positioning assembly
• right and left plush assembly - alignment
• left plush assembly - vertical position
• internal bar code reader
• cassette load cradle
• intermediate plate (only if required after the cassette handling adjustment)

Important
Check to see if the cassette is opened/scanned/closed/ejected correctly. Perform any necessary adjustments/
replacements. The items in this list interact and need to work properly.

Note
If you experience:
• vertical lines: check the laser opening on the collector for fibers present.
• blurred vertical bands: check fold mirror for oxidation (only for silver mirrors)
Do not calibrate if you observe vertical lines. First, resolve the problem by cleaning the collector aperture. If
horizontal artifacts appear, these are due to plate transport problems and cannot be resolved with a calibration.
