Foundations of Success in
Islam
A. Tawhid (Monotheism)

1) Importance of Faith and Belief in Allah:

Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112), Ayah 1-4:

"Say, 'He is Allah, [Who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is
there to Him any equivalent.'"

Instill sense of purpose, meaning, and direction in life.

 ‫َوﻣَﺎ ﺧَ ﻠَﻘۡ تُ ٱﻟۡ ﺟِنﱠ َو ۡٱﻹِﻧسَ إ ﱠِﻻ ﻟِﯾ َۡﻌ ُﺑدُو ِن‬

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to

worship Me.” [Qur’an; 51:56].
2) Developing a Strong Relationship with Allah:

Earn divine favor and blessings in this life and the Hereafter.
B. Akhlaq (ethics)
1) Upholding Moral Values

2) Practicing Compassion, Kindness, and Generosity

Adherence to ethical principles and virtuous behavior.

C. Ibadah (worship)
1) Fulfilling Religious Obligations (Salah, Zakat, Sawm, Hajj):
a) SALAH

Surah Al-Mu'minun (23:1-2): “Successful indeed are the believers:those who humble
themselves in prayer;..”
b) ZAKAT
c) SAWM
d) HAJJ

Attain personal success that transcends worldly achievements.

C. Taqwa (God-consciousness)
Developing Taqwa as a Guard Against Wrongdoing:

‫ب‬
ِ ‫ﺷدِﯾ ُد ٱ ْﻟ ِﻌﻘَﺎ‬
َ َ ‫َوٱ ﱠﺗﻘُوا۟ ٱ ﱠ َ َوٱﻋْ َﻠﻣ ُٓوا۟ أَنﱠ ٱ ﱠ‬
And be mindful of Allah, and know that Allah is severe in punishment

Al-Baqarah 2:196

َ‫ﻓِﻰ ﻗُﻠُو ِﺑﮭِم ﻣﱠرَ ۭضٌ ﻓَزَ ادَ ُھ ُم ٱ ﱠ ُ ﻣَرَ ًۭﺿﺎ ۖ َو َﻟ ُﮭ ْم ﻋَ ذَ ابٌ أَﻟِﯾ ٌۢم ِﺑﻣَﺎ ﻛَﺎﻧُوا۟ ﯾَﻛْ ِذﺑُون‬
There is sickness in their hearts, and Allah ˹only˺ lets their sickness increase. They will suffer a painful punishment for
their lies.

Al-Baqarah 2:10

WRONGDOING UNDERMINES OUR SUCCESS by eroding our

spiritual, moral, and ethical foundations, damaging our
relationships, compromising our mental and emotional
well-being, and impeding our professional and financial growth.
Dimensions of Success in
Islam
A. Success in the Hereafter (Al-Akhirah)

‫ت ۗ َوإِ ﱠﻧﻣَﺎ ﺗ َُوﻓ ْﱠونَ أُﺟُورَ ُﻛ ْم ﯾ َْو َم ٱ ْﻟﻘِ َﯾ ٰـ َﻣ ِﺔ ۖ َﻓﻣَن زُﺣْ زِ حَ ﻋَ ِن‬ ِ ‫ُﻛل ﱡ َﻧﻔْسٍۢ ذَ آ ِﺋ َﻘ ُﺔ ٱ ْﻟﻣ َْو‬
ِ‫ٱﻟﻧﱠﺎرِ َوأ ُدْ ِﺧل َ ٱﻟْﺟَ ﱠﻧ َﺔ َﻓﻘَدْ ﻓَﺎزَ ۗ َوﻣَﺎ ٱﻟْﺣَ ﯾ َٰوةُ ٱﻟ ﱡد ْﻧﯾَﺂ إ ﱠِﻻ َﻣ َﺗ ٰـ ُﻊ ٱ ْﻟ ُﻐرُور‬
Every soul will taste death. And you will only receive your full reward on the Day of
Judgment. Whoever is spared from the Fire and is admitted into Paradise will ˹indeed˺
triumph, whereas the life of this world is no more than the delusion of enjoyment.
Ali 'Imran 3:185

Saved from the Hellfire and being granted entry into Paradise
B. Success in this World (Al-Dunya)

‫ٱ ْﻟﻣَﺎل ُ َوٱ ْﻟ َﺑﻧُونَ زِ ﯾ َﻧ ُﺔ ٱﻟْﺣَ ﯾ َٰو ِة ٱﻟ ﱡد ْﻧﯾَﺎ ۖ َوٱ ْﻟ َﺑ ٰـﻘِ َﯾـٰتُ ٱﻟﺻﱠ ٰـﻠِﺣَ ـٰتُ ﺧَ ْﯾ ٌر ﻋِ ﻧدَ رَ ﱢﺑ َك ﺛ ََوا ۭ ًﺑﺎ‬
٤٦ ‫َوﺧَ ْﯾ ٌر أَﻣ ًَۭﻼ‬
Wealth and children are the adornment of this worldly life, but the everlasting good
deeds are far better with your Lord in reward and in hope.
Al-Kahf 18:46

Successful Individuals
A. Resilience and Persistence: Despite facing persecution and
opposition, Prophet Muhammad remained steadfast in spreading the message of
Islam.
Establishment of a Muslim UMMAH
B. Faith and Obedience: His unshakable faith in Allah's promise of salvation
and obedience to His commands guided his actions throughout his life.
Construction of the Ark
C. Humility: Despite his authority and power, Dhul Qarnayn remained humble
and mindful of his duty to serve others, earning the respect and admiration of
his people.
Establishing justice and righteousness in various lands.
D. Wisdom: Omar ibn Abdul Aziz exhibited wisdom in decision-making, seeking
counsel from scholars and experts to address complex issues facing the empire.
