FTIR SAMPLING SYSTEM

EN 17084 when used with our NBS smoke chamber

(Previously EN 45545-2 ANNEX C)

THE ULTIMATE IN FIRE TESTING

The Concept FTIR Sampling System

The Concept FTIR sampling system is a complete analysis system housed in a 19” rack ready to be connected to the
NBS smoke chamber, Cone calorimeter or the NFX 70-100 test equipment. This is a standard configuration applied
for continuous monitoring of complex combustion gas mixtures. For fire testing applications the FTIR analyser is
configured with a wavelength range and resolution to match the requirements of ISO19702. This specification
allows compliance with EN17084 when used with our NBS Smoke Chamber instrument.

THE ULTIMATE IN FIRE TESTING

Features and Benefits

FTIR Gas Toxicity Monitoring System

• The FTIR can simultaneously measure multiple gases without significant cross interference between gases and
without any sample conditioning. If you need to measure a new compound, spectra can be added to measure the
gas of interest without the need for additional hardware. This is unlike NDIR Gas Filter Correlation analysers used in
the past

• With over 20 years of experience using IR detector technology, detection limits and measurement uncertainties
have been reduced to below the European requirements for waste incineration and power generation and
other industrial applications. The FTIR can measure over 20 gases simultaneously depending on the application

• Using hot wet extractive sampling to ensure no loss of water soluble gases, rugged design with long
maintenance intervals makes the FTIR Gas Toxicity Monitoring System one of the most reliable and powerful
FTIR available for Gas Toxicity measurements in fire testing applications

• The FTIR Gas Toxicity Monitoring System is the ideal tool to use for measuring trace concentrations of pollutants
in wet, corrosive gas streams. All parts of the system are heated up to 180°C and so can be used for undiluted
gases and the sample gases do not need drying beforehand

• The FTIR Gas Toxicity Monitoring System consists of:

– FTIR gas analyser
– Computer
– Sampling interface system.

• All parts of the system are 19” rack mounted and are installed on pull-out shelves

• The system has a flexible I/O platform to meet most equipment protocols

• The FTIR gas toxicity monitoring system includes all power connections and temperature controllers for the
valve, heated line and heated sample filter. The operation of the system is fully automatic and controlled by the
software. Additionally, all functions of the system can be controlled manually

• If any of the critical alarms are activated, the instrument air starts to flow automatically into the system to
prevent condensation and damage to the analyser

• The FTIR Gas Toxicity Monitoring System is equipped with two solenoid valves to allow automated span/zero
checks as required by the new legislation

• The FTIR Gas Toxicity Monitoring System is also supported by full remote control using a modem and
TeamViewer software installed on the computer. It has a very low cost of ownership. The equipment is
extremely well designed and requires very little maintenance. The system also has a number of in-built failsafe
devices to protect the instrument from potential damage

THE ULTIMATE IN FIRE TESTING

Features and Benefits

• The system’s heated sampling line is designed for continuous transportation of gaseous media. The heated
sampling line is flexible, temperature controlled, and is used to keep the sample gas in gas phase and prevent
condensation. This is required when measuring water soluble compounds such as SO2, NH3, HCI, etc. If the inner
sample core has been contaminated it is possible to change the inner sample line

• The Gas Sampling Probe/Heated Filter is designed for easy installation, reliable operation and trouble-free
maintenance. The insertion probe materials, insertion lengths, heating and filtration ensure no condensation
and loss of sample gas. The heated filter is temperature controlled and regulated and is also designed to
minimise excessive sample volume for improved response time. The main filter element (ceramic as standard)
has a large surface area and high capacity is located in the external housing
