COURSE TITLE: Indian Copyright & Related Rights Law (Both)
COURSE OFFERED TO Elective for Joint (LL.B. and LL.M.) INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Rohan Cherian Thomas NUMBER OF CREDITS: 4 Credits DURATION 52 Hours BRIEF DESCRIPTION This course digs into the Copyright Act, 1957. It explores its various (MAXIMUM 500 WORDS) intricacies, right from its curious interpretation clause to some murky amendments. Knowledge of copyright law is esoteric because of its nature in common application. Abundance of its usage in common lingo has given a false-assurance of its understanding. Under the surface lie a range of confusions and half-truths. Building from the angle of case studies and practical scenarios, the course looks to help make sense of the law, policy dilemmas and allow for its critical analysis.
The course looks at transactions involving copyright law, engaging
students with industry agreements.
While the course is focused on Indian law, where relevant, it highlights
reciprocal relations and best practices of foreign jurisdictions. Along with copyright, it covers rights of performers and broadcasting organisations in equal depth. SCHEME OF Mid Term Exam (25) + Project (25) and End Term Exam (50 Marks) EVALUATION: SELECTION CRITERIA (IF 1. Students have completed basic Intellectual Property Rights ANY) Course
