SELECTING THE APPROPRIATE MEDIUM


- Choose types of visual aids.
- Determine the most effective way of presenting them to the audience.
1. Posters
- Can be easily prepared on posters (graphs, charts, diagrams, and
drawings).
- Is Cheap and allows for creativity.
2. Video clips.
- Need a computer, projection, equipment, and screen.
- Should be careful when using the video clips.
- Should be short and directly support the main point (not dominate or
overshadow, your ideas.)
3. Overhead transparencies.
* Overhead projector.
- Are a popular medium for showing charts and graphs (business and
professional presentations)
- Provide the impact of projection (rich colors, and three-dimensional
designs)
* Transparencies.
- Can design transparency on a computer.
- Can highlight with colored markets.
- Write on them during the presentation (emphasize important data or
add information).
4. Flip charts.
- Are a very popular medium for business and professional
presentations.
- Preparing flip charts is relatively easy.
- Can write notes in pencil lightly in the margin.
5. Slides.
- May take pictures of a subject that supports an important point.
- Have them made into slides.
- Using slides requires good planning.
6. Demonstration.
- Shows the audience how a process works.
- Should follow certain steps.
7. Blackboards.
- Prepare your visuals before the speech and avoid the blackboard (the
best policy)
- Write only brief information.
- Have less effect on dull, drawings and graphs (lack color and contrast)
8. Handouts.
- Supplement your oral presentation.
- Distribute handouts at the end of the presentation.
