Our resources are from the earth which is known as natural resources Types of natural resources 1. Air 2. Water 3. Soil 4. Minerals 5. Metals 6. Energy 7. Animals 8. Plants
All of these are from our environment
These natural resources could be broken down to 2 types: Renewable and non-renewable Air is an example of renewable resources Oil is an example of non-renewable resource Natural resources are not uniformly distributed in our planet Humans live where we could get as many resources we could find
More people means more resources are needed
Fossil fuels are driving the economy currently more specifically coal and oils The benefit of coal and oil is that it is cheap Energy was stored a long time ago and we are currently using it This resource has its own cost. 1. It will not last forever 2. It has unintended consequences: burning fossil fuels causes a buildup of greenhouse gases which in turn warms up the planet Due to these consequences there is a switch from non-renewable to renewable resource. It is driven by 2 things: 1. Technology – an example would be solar. A decade ago, solar energy was expensive but as technology furthers, it has become cheaper. 2. Regulations – used to penalize the people who won’t follow the switch from non- renewable to renewable Humans get resources from Land, water, and air.
