A DIET FOR

MARS EXPLORERS
ACKNOWLEDGING MARS CLIMATE
Mars has a colder and extreme climate. The
average temprature is around -62

INTRODUCTION
NASA needs to send people to Mars by 2030, the trip from Mars
and back will take three years, How can we store enough food for
them?

People had given their methods, and we will see how effective they
are:
1.Send 5 years worth of food in a spaceship before the astronaunt?
2.Could we actually save space by using pills instead of food?
3.Any ways to reduce the problem of bones becoming weaker?
4.Could they grow plants on Mars or on their spacship?

GIVING ASTRONAUTS PILLS
INSTEAD OF FOOD
Giving pills instead of food can't fulifill all of

Its hard to eat pills in space because of lack of
gravity this can cause choking.
Pills may lack the diversity and sensory

FOODS TO HELP BONES FROM
BEING WEAK
What you can do to prevent bones from being weak:
Regular exercise is crucial for preventing bone loss in
space.
Medications such as bisphosphonates can be used to
prevent or treat bone loss in space.
Proper nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining bone
health.Adequate calcium and vitamin D helps bones
from being weak
Can food be
grown on Mars?
1. Hydroponics: Hydroponic systems, which grow plants without soil, are being considered for
Mars missions. Nutrient-rich water solutions can be circulated around the plant roots, providing
essential elements required for growth. Hydroponics can reduce reliance on Martian soil and
enable more controlled nutrient delivery to plants.
2. Aeroponics: Aeroponics is a method where plants are grown in an air or mist environment with
nutrients delivered directly to the roots. This technique minimizes water usage and can be
suitable for the limited resources available on Mars. It also reduces the need for soil.
3. Artificial Lighting: Given Mars' lower light levels and different day-night cycle compared to
Earth, artificial lighting will likely be necessary for plant growth. Energy-efficient LED lighting
systems can provide the specific light wavelengths needed for plant photosynthesis and
growth.
4. Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA): One possibility is to establish enclosed
environments, such as greenhouses or growth chambers, that provide controlled conditions for
plant growth. These environments can regulate temperature, humidity, light, and carbon
dioxide levels to create a more favorable growing environment for plants.
The issue with growing
plant on Mars
Growing plants on Mars will take a lot trial and
error so it's not safe for astronaut to grow plants
on Mars
How food is currently made for
astronaut?
The current way of making food is already space saving
and healthy. But freeze-drying food, and liquifying them
are working effectively.
