I. Objectives
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of instrument function and playing techniques of Philippine musical instrument,
particularly in Mindanao.
B. Performance Standards The learner analyses instrument function and playing techniques of Philippine musical instrument.
C. Learning Competencies At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:
1. identify and describe the different manners of playing bamboo musical instruments in Mindanao.
2. perform a Philippine folksong with the accompaniment of available bamboo musical instruments.
3. appreciate the importance of bamboo music as a reflection of culture and tradition of ethnic group in Mindanao
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Class, I have s story for you. It is entitle, “The Farmer and the
Bamboo Tree”. I need 3 volunteers here in front to give life to
the characters of the story. Any volunteer? (The students raise their hand to be one of the characters in the
story)
What you will do is to read your part in the story. In doing so,
you need to wear this provided head dress.

We have finished unlocking the words. Now, let us listen to the (The volunteer students will give life to the characters of the

Narrator: So, the farmer cut his beloved bamboo tree. After a
while, the farmer talked again with the bamboo tree.

Class, did you like the story? (The students will answer)
After you heard the story, what did you feel? I was inspired.
Why did you feel that way? I was inspired by the story because even a tree can sacrifice
itself for the sake of others, in order to make people live and
survive.

After those sacrifices, the bamboo realized its purpose to the life
of many people; to our life. Did you know that we get lots of
benefits from roots up to the branches of this tree? Can you give
one example? It is used as medicine.
There are five major tribes in Mindanao, what are those? (The students will answer.)

with this instrument. Through shaking or hitting you can create a
