I. In Practice
What is a chronic illness?

Chronic illness affects your body persistently and frequently recurs over time. If you suffer from a chronic disease,

you may have difficulty adjusting to the demands of the illness. Therapy is often used to treat these types of

conditions and manage adverse symptoms. Chronic illness can hinder your ability to be independent, adding

additional stress to daily activities. People who deal with chronic ailments often believe that the absence of

symptoms means they are no longer suffering from their condition. But this may not mean that the disease has

disappeared altogether.

Top 5 (five) most common types of chronic diseases.

1.Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects how your body processes blood sugar. When your pancreas doesn’t

produce enough insulin or doesn’t use it effectively, it results in this chronic ailment. There are two types of

diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2, the latter of which is the most common.

If you have high blood sugar, you are at greater risk for:

 Stroke
 Kidney disease
 Blindness
 Potential amputations

High blood sugar associated with diabetes damages the blood vessels in the heart and blocks the vessels leading

to your brain. Preventing or delaying complications associated with the disease begins with simple lifestyle

changes. Regularly exercising and eating a healthy diet can lower blood glucose levels.

2.Heart disease

Although there are other conditions that fall under the category of heart disease, but it generally involves narrowed

or blocked blood vessels. Atherosclerosis may develop as a result, which causes plaque to build up in the walls of

your arteries. Plaque buildup and blood clots make it difficult for blood to flow through your arteries.
This condition comes in many forms, often leading to:

 Irregular heartbeats
 High blood pressure
 Heart attacks
 Chest pain
 Strokes

3.Asthma

When the airways in your lungs becomes narrow and inflamed, your body doesn’t receive the necessary amount

of oxygen, making it hard to breathe. Symptoms of asthma often include:

 Tightness in your chest

 Extra mucus
 Persistent coughing
 Wheezing

4.Hypertension

When your body stores an excess of fat or lipids, your arteries can become clogged, contributing to heart disease.

A heart that pumps too much blood but has narrow arteries that restrict the flow of blood through them results in

high blood pressure, or hypertension. This condition commonly occurs in 58% of older adults, but it can lead to

more severe problems, including a heart attack or a stroke. Regulating your stress levels, checking your blood

pressure regularly, and limiting your sodium intake can help you manage or prevent hypertension.

5.Stroke

A stroke typically occurs as a result of other ailments like high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Two of the

common types of strokes you could suffer are ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Ischemic strokes obstruct

the necessary flow of blood from entering the brain. A hemorrhagic stroke happens when a blood vessel ruptures,

which also prevents blood flow to the brain.

II. In Reflection (20 points)

1. Prepare a ONE paragraph summary of each of the five sites you visited describing your experience visiting this
site. Be sure to include the URL address for each site in your summaries.

I found a lot of information on this site and they really explain well the information they are sharing and for me it
really feels like I’m talking one on one to a medical professionals.

(Sulkowski Family Medicine)

This website is really particular in the information they are saying it also give us a lot of information to us and
serves as a guide when we need reliable information.

https://www.health.ny.gov/diseases/chronic/ (Department of Health)

I have obtained a lot if information on this website and they really have a lot of information that id provided for the
readers to understand better.

https://www.physio-pedia.com/Chronic_Disease (Physiopedia)

The information they are saying is accurate and careful in disseminating health information, they are also giving
tips on how to prevent or what you should do to become healthy.

https://www.cdc.gov/chronicdisease/about/index.htm (Center for Disease Control and Prevention)

They provide a lot of information that can help people with this condition and for other people to be aware
about chronic disease. I had a good experience visiting this website because I learned a lot of things about
chronic diseases.

2. How useful will accessing the World Wide Web be for you in terms of:

a) Scholarly (Education) Work?

The biggest advantage in using the World Wide Web as a source for research is that it lets us look at specific
topics from an interdisciplinary perspective. Due to the large volume of published literature in the library,
researchers have had a tendency to stay within their own fields when they search for references. By doing so,
they may have been restricting themselves to their own fields and may have had little idea of the kind of studies in
other disciplines that may be helpful.

b) future Nursing Practice?

World Wide Web is useful in future nursing practice because it offers the potential for patients to become more
involved in their own care, learning about their condition, accessing and contributing to their online health record,
and interacting with health services.

c) Personal Interests?

The world wide web opened up the internet to everyone. It connected the world in a way that made it much easier
for people to get information, share, and communicate. It has since allowed people to share their work and
thoughts through social networking sites, blogs, video sharing, and more. world wide web is very useful to us
specially these days because it really help us to explore new things.

How is the World Wide Web metaphorically similar to a Spider's Web?

Can you see any reason for it to be called "The Web"?

World Wide Web is an information system on the internet which allows documents to be connected to other
documents by hypertext links, enabling the user to search for information by moving from one document to
another. Spider Web is a program designed to "crawl" over the World Wide Web, the portion of the Internet most
familiar to general users, and retrieve locations of Web pages. It is sometimes referred to as a web crawler. Many
search engines use web crawlers to obtain links, which are filed away in an index. The Web was invented by Tim
Berners-Lee, who called it the World Wide Web because he wanted to emphasize that anything could link to
anything else. Until then, information especially on computers was usually stored in some kind of hierarchical
format. You can visualize the World Wide Web as a very, very, very large spider's web. The strands in the web are
pointers or links, and each intersection of two strands is another web site. You can imagine any website as being
the center of the web, with strands radiating out from it.
