CONSIDERATION TEACHERS NEED TO MAKE WHEN TEACHING YOUNG LEARNERS
Teachers play a very important role with it comes to young learners. Young students tend to look up to their teachers. It is important for teachers to make young learners feel confident and comfortable. Create a good environment that the students will want to learn in. Greeting your students should be the first thing that you as a teacher should do in a friendly and warm manner. Students’ names should be known by the teachers. Teachers should make sure that the language that is being taught is done in a very interesting, fun and motivating way, and to their level of understanding. Lessons must be well planned so that the students do not get bored. Activities can be included in a game in the lesso or a play. Colorful charts with pictures should keep young learners focused. Get students to come up to the board and draw something relating to the lesson. Maybe a puzzle or a quiz can be planned for students that finish their work early. The teacher needs to have a lot of patience and understanding. When the teacher gets the students involved in the lesson it will improve their success.
HOW DO YOU ADAPT YOUR LESSONS TO TEACH YOUNG LEARNERS ON CLASSROOM
OR ONLINE When planning a lesson or teaching a lesson, the young learners need to be the first thing to consider. What will keep them focused and interested in the lesson. The main aim is for them to learn. How do you make them understand the language. The teacher needs to be very patient and understanding. Create interesting things for them to do so they enjoy the lesson like for example, drawing and painting, maybe sing a song with them using certain vocabulary. Sing it together and then, try and make them sing it to you while you clap. If certain words are wrong just do it again because it’s fun, they will enjoy it and will not get bored. Have flash cards with all different colors. Have charts with pictures on them. Point to them, tell them what it is. You then ask the student to go to the chart and point and tell you what it is. Praising the students helps them get motivated. Using your surroundings to teach them. Cultural differences are also an important thing to consider. Teachers need to be understanding because we will not know what kind of cultural beliefs they come from. Make an environment so that your students are comfortable enough to talk to you about anything.
