Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.

Today, I would like to speak to you about simple measures which

may help us contribute to the fight against climate change. Many normal citizens do not know how to
develop their commitment towards the preservation of nature and the care for the planet, so from our
organization, Friends of the Earth, we thought it would be very positive to disseminate certain information.

Scientists today are warning us about possible increases in the temperature of the planet, and that is one of
our main concerns. Of course, that lead us onto thinking about the reduction of CO2 emissions, and you
may be wondering: “what is it that I can do?”. Well, the first you can do is to do a series of things at home.
Do you really know if your home is well insulated? You should look for cracks in the walls and see if your Comentado [MA1]: Evita el “ehhhhhm”. Utiliza frases de
windows and doors do close tightly. If not, there is a big range of solutions you can adopt. For example, you por medio para alargar el tiempo de espera.
may inject insulation materials into your walls, and you may install double-glazing windows. That will start
making you save money in terms of your heating bill.

Also, maybe you haven’t thought of how the sun can help you live in a more comfortable home. Maybe you
still do not know that there are two kinds of solar panels: photovoltaic solar panels, which generate
electricity, and the thermodynamic solar panels, the ones which are used to heat up water for domestic use.
These latter ones are very efficient, as they can heat up all the water a standard family might need at home,
even in places such as Scotland, where the sun is hidden behind clouds most of the year. Technology is still
evolving, and in the case of photovoltaic panels, they get on better with homes which are equipped with
modern domestic appliances, such as the new fridges and washing machines. The new technology placed in
this machinery uses less energy, so the power generated at home with solar panels may be enough to make
them run without having to resort to traditional power. Comentado [MA2]: Final inventado!

This is my first trip, my first foreign trip as a first lady. Can you believe that? And while this is not my first
visit to the U.K., I have to say that I am glad that this is my first official visit. The special relationship Comentado [MA3]: Evita los “ehhhhm”, inténtalo
between the U.S. and the U.K. is based not only on the relationship between governments, but the common
language and the values that we share, and I’m reminded of that by watching you all today. During my visit,
I’ve been especially honored to meet some of Britain’s most extraordinary women, women who are paving
the way for all of you.

And I’m honored to meet you, the future leaders of Great Britain and this world. And although the
circumstances of our lives may seem very distant, with me standing here as the First Lady of the USA, and
you, just getting through school, I want you to know that we have very much in common. For nothing in my Comentado [MA4]: Qué ha pasado aquí? No has tomado

attended university. My dad was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the prime of his life. But even as it got
harder for him to walk and get dressed in the morning – I saw him struggle more and more – my father
never complained about his struggle. He was grateful for what he had. He just woke up a little earlier and
worked a little harder. And my brother and I were raised with all that you really need: love, strong values, Comentado [MA6]: No es que creían que “con amor,
