CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHOD AND PROCEDURE

This chapter deals with the research methodology that was employed to accomplish the

study. It includes research design, respondents of the study, data gathering procedure, data

gathering instrument and statistical treatment of data.

Research design

This study will use mixed method approach of research which is a combination of both

quantitative and qualitative type of research to determine the impact of parental separation to the

development of a student's interpersonal skills. This form of study gives a more comprehensive

grasp of a research topic than the research itself.

Participants of the study

The respondents of the study were determined using purposive quota sampling. The

subject of the study was composed of eighty (80) participants for quantitative and five (5)

qualitative college students and the respondents were first year to fourth year students from all of

the departments from Batangas State University- TNEU Lipa Campus who experienced parents

separation.

The researchers choose participants using purposive sampling. A purposive sampling is a

non- probability sample that is selected based on the characteristics of a population and the

objective of the study. Purposive sampling is also known as judgmental probability sampling in

which decisions concerning the individuals to be included in the sample are taken by the

researcher, based upon the variety of criteria which may include specialist knowledge of the

research issue, or capacity (Oliver, 2013).
