D. TEACHER’S SELF-REFLECTION OF THE SESSION

Engagement Strategies: While I attempted to incorporate various engagement techniques, such as open-ended
questions and group discussions, I noticed that some students seemed disengaged during certain parts of the lesson.
Reflecting on this, I realize the need to explore additional strategies to capture their interest and maintain their focus
throughout the session.

ASSIST IN TRANSPORTING PATIENTS

Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:

1. Explains the importance of healthcare service in

transporting a patient.
2. Identify the equipment’s used in transporting
patients

Introductory
Transfers of patient care are a crucial but
sometimes overlooked component of patient care. A crucial part of patient
care is patient care transfers, which need for strict adherence to clinical
guidelines. Appropriate transfers are predicated on the idea of preserving
continuity of care throughout and following the transfer.

Patients frequently get care in several venues

both during and after hospitalization, depending on the complexity of their
condition. Intrahospital transfers are unavoidable, especially for patients
who are severely sick, even though many components of patient transport
depend on the patient's condition. Careful attention should be given to
patient transfers that are poorly coordinated, since this can lead to higher
rates of morbidity and death.

What is patient transportation?

The act of transporting patients to and from

various parts of a medical facility is commonly referred to as patient
transportation or patient transport. Patients are occasionally not allowed to
walk from their rooms to other parts of the hospital or are not able to do so
due to physical limitations. In these situations, patient transporters assist
in securely transferring patients to other locations for medical care, testing,
recuperation after recent surgeries, and other purposes by using
wheelchairs and stretchers

Why is health service delivery important?

For patients and the general public alike,

the provision of healthcare is the most visible aspect of the health system.
The organization and provision of all services pertaining to illness diagnosis
and treatment, or the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health, is
the primary focus, along with patient flows.

Why is a patient transport vehicle important?

For hospitals to effectively care for their

patients and run smoothly, patient transporters are essential. Transporting
patients swiftly in and out of rooms helps prevent delays and overcrowding
in emergency departments, as hospitals transfer a lot of patients across the
facility on a regular basis

Transportation equipment

Wheelchairs provide mobility, postural support and

freedom to those who cannot walk or have difficulty walking, enabling
them to move around, participate in everyday activities and live life on
their own terms.

A stretcher, gurney, litter, or pram is an

apparatus used for moving patients who require medical care.

The Oxygen cylinder trolley is mounted on castors for

ease of movement and is used to carry oxygen cylinders. The trolley is

portable.

Transfer belts help provide support and

balance to patients, so caregivers face significantly less risk of injury

while transferring individuals from one room or device to another.
An intravenous pole, or IV, pole is simply a

device that holds a bag (or bags) of intravenous fluids in place as it is

being administered to a patient through a tube.
Hospital Bed
A basic type (cot or litter) must be carried by two or more people. A
wheeled stretcher (known as a gurney, trolley, bed or cart) is often
equipped with variable height frames, wheels, tracks, or skids. 

Ambulance is a medically-
equipped vehicle used to transport patients to treatment facilities,
such as hospitals. Typically, out-of-hospital medical care
