Book synopsis
● Two students from Brookwood High go missing on the same night. Three days pass and no
leads.
○ The first is Peter Moon- A heartless ‘know it all’ who bashes students on his blog,
turning everyone against him.
○ The second is the audacious and adored Kat Pike, a girl desperate to boost her
adrenaline.

● Indifferent to these disappearances, Jackie Mendoza remains immersed in her virtual world
of video games and online friends, staying out of all the commotion.

● Things take a grim turn when a menacing app by the name of Capsule downloads itself onto
Jackie’s phone and threatens to erase Kat and Peter. WIth the timer ticked off, only Jackie
could save them- but Capsule is the most ruthless games she’s ever played.

 Jackie Mendoza
Overview- Who is Jackie?
Jackie Mendoza is the main protagonist in Capsule.
She’s intelligent, focused and although she usually
chooses to avoid conflict and stay out of the drama,
she makes an exception for her close friends and
family.
● Jackie is a avid gamer, often immersed in her
own world of virtual games. She is also not a
very sociable person.
● Physical attributes-Long, greasy black hair,
tanned skin and she’s half filipino.
● Jackie has a brother- Jay Mendoza
1 Jackie and Central theme
The idea of defining your borders on the
internet is portrayed through Jackie perfectly,
her entire internal conflict embodies the
theme. Jackie also shows us a fresh new look
at judging people by not engaging in drama.
2 Character Development
The opening scene of Capsule showcases
Jackie ignoring the kid next to her, an almost
striking parallel to the end scene, where she
slams her phone down and initiates
conversation. Jackie learns to have a balance
between internet and the real world.
 Peter Moon
Overview- Who is Peter?
After failing to convince himself that the SAT preparation
and following his schedules was more important, than a
stupid ‘prank’ that threatens his life, he gets on board to
rummage through the levels of Capsule.We learn that there
is more to Peter than his malicious blog posts and his
perfection driven addiction.
● Physical attributes- Dark black hair, dark eyes,
gentle face shape.
● Peter is a health freak,a great student and a
perfectionist. He strived to eliminate his bad habits,
but in an attempt to cleanse his life, he had
devoured it away.

Peter is constantly against the idea of social
media presence and ironically his over
restriction is what drive him mad and made
him dislikable. Peter also shows how first
impressions can be dangerous
2 Character Development
Peter starts out obsessed with perfection,
the only time he ever got late was during his
birthday, the same day he went missing. By
the end of the book Peter learns to be a bit
more carless, ending up taking the riskiest
decisions in the game.
 Kat Pike
Overview- Who is Kat? 1 Kat and central theme
Kathabelle Pike’s perfectly curated social media Kat’s instagram is a hub of life
presence and her social status with booming where she pretends to be
popularity, was merely the tip of the iceberg. Kath, is someone she isn’t. We also learn
an adrenaline seeking teen, willing to do whatever to how memories of the past affect
feel a rush of emotion, even risk her life at the words her in the present
of a game.
