It is now widely accepted that the consequences of global warming and environment attrition

are devastating. Tackling these issues is not only a task for governments and institutions, but also for
citizens, especially for the young ones. There are various ways in which everyone of us can help
protect the environment.

To begin with, the most important and also the easiest thing we can do for our planet is to
make our daily habits more eco – friendly. Students can eliminate waste by packing their school
meals in a lunch box instead of a paper wrapping. They can also drink from flasks, not from plastic
bottles or tins. Young adults can also reduce paper consumption by taking notes on electronic
devices, save water by collecting rainwater and watering plants with it, save electricity by turning off
the lights that are not in use. Moreover, if they have some school supplies that they do not use
anymore, they can donate them to the needy, instead of throwing them away. We can also choose
environmentally friendly products and buy second – hand clothes. Another good idea is to support
local food produce. By buying from local greengrocers and butchers we limit the food transportation
costs.

Not everyone agrees that students should be involved in time – consuming extracurricular
activities, but being a member of an environmental club is an option worth considering. It can bring
us opportunities to socialize, develop their our skills and gain knowledge about the environment.
Some environmental clubs also organize eco – friendly events and take part in local initiatives, such
as litter collection in forests or urban areas. Young people can also use their rights as citizens to
protest and try to influence the authorities to protect the environment.

All in all, there is a wide variety of actions that students can undertake in order to protect our
planet from global warming. Some of these opportunities are obvious, but not always embraced. It is
significant for young adults to be aware of the environmental issues and to take action in order to
tackle them.
