greening initiatives would you propose to your own campus, community, and home?

There are a lot of ways for us to partake in making our environment greener while embracing
modernity and progress. First on my list is the conservation of non-renewable resources like
electricity. We can do so by unplugging our appliances that are not in use to conserve energy,
upgrading our light bulb to LED bulbs as it does not contain harmful chemicals to the
environment and is cost-efficient. Considering switching to solar panels is also helpful since it
converts the sun’s heat to electricity which is also a great help to cut off your expenses in
electricity.

Water, though considered one of the renewable resources, should also be conserved. We can
use a basin rather than using running water in washing our dishes, using a bucket and dipper
rather than shower in taking a bath, and turning off faucets if not in use.

Another would be promoting organic ways for us to not harm our environment. In our home, we
already started doing a compost pit by putting our leftovers in a soil mixture. As it decomposes,
it serves as an organic fertilizer, especially in my mom’s mini garden where we harvest some
herbs and vegetables such as chilis, bok - choy, papaya, and lemons.

Participating in environmental-related events such as “Earth hour'', clean-up drives, tree

planting, recycling, and “ no segregation, as well as promoting policies like no collection” policy
for garbage, the use of eco bags rather than plastic bags, and more, would be a great
contribution in helping our environment. Since we now have social media such as Facebook
and Twitter, we can use these platforms not just in promoting these greening events and policies
but also to raise awareness about how nature badly needed us in protecting her as our home.
Aside from that, doing so can give us this sense of fulfillment that we are taking our part as a
protector of our nature.

We should also be concerned about carbon emissions that contribute to global warming. In this
time of using motorized vehicles such as cars and motorcycles, we should also consider using
bikes or just walking especially when our destination is just near. Aside from the fact that you
will lessen the carbon emission, it will also serve as an exercise that can help improve your
health.

Regardless of how small or big our initiatives are in helping our nature, this will help in saving
against human activities that keep on destroying the planet we call our home. This will not just
help us, but also others to live in a greener and cleaner environment. In doing so, we can also
inspire others and join together in saving and protecting our environment. Just like Hellen Keller
said “ Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” - may this quotation remind us to
join our efforts, regardless how big or small it is, in saving our planet.
