PROJECT TITLE

MG 7300 NITROGEN GAS PLANT PROJECT CONCRETE PAVEMENT

OBJECTIVES:
1 To have a knowledge on doing layout on site
2 To ensure the quality of works
MATERIALS:
1 Steel Forms/Timber Forms
2 Dfb 12 mm dia/Cocolumber 2" x" x 12'
7 Base Coarse - Gravel & Sand
8 Concrete Nails
TOOLS:
1 Tape
2 Fishing Line
5 Fishing Line
6 Mechanical Vibrator
7 Compactor
8 Tamping Rammer
9 Spirit Level
10 Total Station
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 The Project supervisor is responsible for the safety and supervision of all works
2 Mason & Carpenter shall be responsible for the execution of this procedure.
3 The Quality Control Supervisor and foreman shall be responsible for the quality of works
SAFETY:
1 Safety shall be followed during the procedure. Adequate PPE is required.
PROCEDURES:
Concrete Pavement Construction Process
1.) Preparation of Sub Grade
a). All elevations must be checked first and must be cleaned, shaped and levelled
b.) Check the slope of pavement to prevent ponding of water
c.) After cleaning, it is prepared to the required grade and profile
c.) It should be seen that sub-grade has uniform strength over its entire width
If any local weak spots are found, they should be removed and strengthened by placing new material
d.)
which is compacted.
2.) Provison of Sub Base
The sub-base serves the following three purposes :
a.)It provides a capillary cut-off and the damage caused by mud pumping is prevented.
b.)Provides a strong supporting layers.
c.)It reduces the thickness of concrete slab and thus leads to lower cost of construction

3.) Placing the Forms in Concrete Pavement

a.) The forms may be made up of steel or timber
The steel forms are of mild steel channel sections and their depth is equal to the thickness of the
b.)
pavement.
c.) Forms are properly braced and fixed to the ground by means of stakes
d.) When the forms are fixed the forms are oiled before placing concrete in them

4.) Watering the Prepared Sub-grade or Sub-base

a.) After the forms are fixed, the prepared surface to receive concrete is made moist
b.) If the sub-grade is dry, it should be sprinkled with as much quantity of water as it can absorb
c.) It is advisable to wet the surface at least 12 hrs in advance of placing the concrete
When insulating layer of water-poof paper is provided, the moistening of the surface prior to placing the
d.)
concrete is not required.

5.) Concrete Pouring and Curing for Concrete Pavement

a.) Before discharging the concrete at the point of delivery, the driver will provide the Material
Engineer or Quality Control Engineer the delivery ticket identifying the material for each
batch of concrete
c.) The ready mix will be tested for slumptest and temperature not exceeding 30 degrees
before pouring. It should datisfy first the desired slump and temperature as per designed.
If the following test did not pass, the ready mix will be rejected.
The ready mix will provide the cylinder for strength testing
d.) The concrete will be deposited continuously or in layers of such thickness so that cold joints
are not formed. The concrete, which has partially hardened, will not be deposited. Suitable
construction joints will be provided to avoid formation of cold joints.
e.) After placing, the concrete will be consolidated by using mechanical or electrical vibrators,
which will be operated by competent workmen. Use of vibrators to transport concrete within
the formwork will not be allowed.
f.) Immediately after placement, concrete will be protected from premature drying and
excessively hot temperatures and will be maintained with minimum moisture loss at relatively
constant temperature for a period necessary for the hydration of the cement and hardening
of the concrete.
The curing of concrete will be carried out by one of the following procedures:
Pouring or continuous sprinkling of water.
g.) The workability of the concrete will be continuously monitored at delivery place before
casting.
h.) Stripping of formworks will take place when desired concrete strength attained.
