EDUCATIONAL TOUR PROGRAM (LUCKNOW)
Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology & Sciences conducted
a Three Day Educational tour program for the student of VII semester B.Sc
(Hons) Agriculture from 25.11.2019 (Monday) to 27.11.19 (Wednesday). About
170 students and 9 faculty members were the participant. The tour was
Headed by Prof(Dr.) Devi Singh (Assistant Professor),Department of
Horticulture & other faculties. The purpose of this educational tour was to visit
the Major Agriculture & Horticulture Research centre present in Lucknow &
visit a successful Farmer.

Lucknow is the capital city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh which is about
200 km from Allahabad.All the students were seated to their respective bus as
it was assigned to do. Once everyone was settled we headed toward Lucknow.

The completion of our educational tour was not possible without the
participation & assistance of so many peoples whose names may not all be
said. Their contribution is sincerely appreciated and gratefully acknowledged.
However, we would like to Thanks our advisor Prof (Dr.) Devi Singh (Assistant
Professor) &Prof (Dr.) Gautam Ghosh (Dean of Naini Agriculture institute) for
their support.

DAY 1
CENTRAL INSTITUTE FOR SUBTROPICAL HORTICULTURE (CISH)

 The research is situated in Kakori, Rehmankhera approx. 25 km away


from the capital city of Lucknow.
 The area of CISH is spread across 135.2 hector of land.
 It was started as Central mango research centreon September 4, 1947 &
later it was renamed as Centre institute for subtropical Horticulture on
June 4, 1994.
 CISH has memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Naini Agricultural
institute to train their students for acquiring their M.Sc degree &Ph.D
Degree.

OBJECTIVE

 Crop improvement through breeding and genetic engineering.


 Enhancing productivity through improving quality & quantity of planting
material using modern propagation techniques and root stocks.
 Reducing post-harvest losses through improved post harvesting
management practices and value addition.
 Human resource management, transfer of technology & evolution of its
socio-economical impact.
 Data storage and retrieval on all aspect of mandated crops.
EXPERIMENT CARRIED OUT AT CISH

 Standardization of container gardening of fruit for catering the nutitional


requirment of city dwellers.
 Enhancing quality of guava production through tree architecture
technique.
 Develpoment of organic package of practice for mango (AICRP fruits).

DAY 2
INDIAN INSTITURE OF SUGARCANE RESEARCH
 The Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research (IISR) is an autonomous
institute of higher learning, under the umbrella of Indian Council of
Agricultural Research (ICAR) by the Ministry of Agriculture,
Government of India for advanced research in sugar cane agriculture.
 It was established on 16 February 1952 by the Indian Central
Sugarcane Committee. It was brought directly under the Government
of India on 1 January 1954.
 On 1 april 1969, it was entrusted to the Indian Council of Agricultural
Research (ICAR),New Delhi.

ACTIVITY DONE IN IISR


 Visit to workshop of IISR where the farm machinery & implements
were developed to be carried out in the sugarcane farm.
 On 26 january our nation celebrates constitution day, hence we
were requested to join the grand celebration of constitution day in
IISR auditorium.
 Research Fields were visited to know more about sugarcane
cultivation.
 Visit to the jaggery(gur) unit in IISR where processing , handling
and storage of jaggery is done.

OBJECTIVE
 To enhance the quality sugarcane and develop low cost, energy
efficient jiggery production & storage technology from sugarcane.
 To improve the productivity and quality of sugarcane production all
over the country.
 Conducting sugarcane researches on fundamental and applied
aspects of sugarcane culture.
 To co-ordinate the research work done on the crop in different states
of India.

VISIT TO GANGA AQUARIUM AT NATIONAL BUREAU OF FISH
GENETIC RESOURCE

 Ganga aquarium was established on 19 November 2010.


 A total 42 aquarium is made alongside with amazing decorative items
to make it more natural and serine.
 There are more than 100 species of fish kept in the aquarium from
across the world.
 The aquarium has large number of exotic and endangered species of
fish in the display.
 This aquarium also encourages the students and local people to built
awareness and know more about fishes and marine life.

CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF MEDICINAL & AROMATIC PLANT
(CIMAP)

 This institute was established on 1959.


 Dr. Abdul Samad is the present director of CIMAP.
 CIMAP Research Centres are also situated in different agro-climatic
zones of the country to facilitate multi-location field trials and
research.
 The other Research Centres are also present at Bangalore,
Hyderabad, Pantnagar and Purara.

ACTIVITY DONE IN CIMAP

 Visit of medicinal garden present at CIMAP


 Getting familiar with different type of aromatic and medicinal plants
which were grown in CIMAP
 Getting familiar and knowing more about the machinery used while
extracting juice and essential oil from plants for making medicine,
chemical replacer & cosmetic products.

OBJECTIVE OF CIMAP
 To preserve all medicinal and aromatic plants & in addition to
seed gene bank, tissue and DNA.
 It is also called as the national gene bank of medicinal and
aromatic plant.
 To extend and share the knowledge about medicinal and
aromatic plants among the students and farmers.
 To support the basic chemical sciences to make more quality,
efficient and safe medicine.
 To help in pharmaceuticals and value addition to natural
products through chemical modifications.
 Development of pharmacologically important compounds and
development of new synthetic protocols.

VISIT TO KUKRAIL GHARIAL PARK


 Kukrailgharial park is the home kukrailgharial picnic spot and home
to many endangered species of crocodile.
 The forest reserve was established on 1979.
 The major objective of this park is to conserve some endangered
species of plant and animal.

ACTIVITY DONE IN KUKRAIL PARK

 Got a chance to get more closer to wildlife and natural environment.


 Got time to relax & have fun in natural environment after 3 days of
educational tour.
 Visited wildlife museum in the park
 The program was followed by Lunch in the forest park.

VISIT TO A SUCCESSFUL FARMER IN BARABANKI

 Barabanki is situated in outskirt of Lucknow


 Visited a successful farmer in barabanki who stated cultivating
flowers across aland of approx. 20 acres.
 Major cultivation done here is gladiolus & gerbera.
 20 to 30 peoples are employed in his farm.
 the farmer claims to double his income by 10 times after choosing the
cultivation of flowers over agricultural crops.

CONCLUSION

Educational tour had a great importance for me as it not only broaden my


outlook but enhanced my knowledge to a great extent. We as the student,
we got to learn various things that are related to our course study. This
educational tour was very much fruitful to us. This program helped us to
know more about agricultural study and its various research program. This
educational tour also brought all B.Sc (Hon) Agriculture, VII semester
students together to share their knowledge and share this fruitful
experience together.

I would also like to express my special gratitude to Prof (Dr.) Devi Singh
(Assistant Professor) & Prof (Dr.) Gautam Ghosh (Dean Of Naini
Agricultural Institute) who brought us such a delightful opportunities to
visit various research centres across Lucknow & guided us throughout the
tour. I would also like to thank all the faculty & teaching staffs who were
with us in our entire tour. Without their participation this tour would not
be possible.
