Summary: On a day meant for all manner of fun and laughter, Shinji decides to pull one over on Misato and Asuka. Lucky for him, he had the right bait...
*Chapter 1*: Shinji Gets the Last Laugh
*Disclaimer: I own nothing of Gainax, Khara or Gemmy Industries.*

Shinji looked at his watch for what seemed like the third time this evening. He'd been anxiously waiting for Misato and Asuka to return home from NERV, where they had to stay
a bit longer. The fact that this gave him a head start enabled him to get everything set up once they came back. The table was set, the food was ready, and the centerpiece of
the whole spread was right in, where else, the center of it all. It'd taken him a few days of planning, some brief tech consultation from Kensuke, and a short visit to a local novelty
shop, but now everything was ready.

Soon enough, he heard the sounds of footsteps outside the door to the apartment. At this, he signaled his other co-conspirator to get ready. Once out of sight, Shinji proceeded
to act natural as his two roommates came in, weary of another day. As soon as they'd changed their clothes, they came into the dining room and sat down.

"So, what's for dinner?" Misato asked, one of her trademark beer cans already in-hand.

"Well, it's fish..." Shinji started to say, his hand already on the cover over the main dish.

"*UGH* Why..." Asuka groaned.

"BUT, I decided to prepare it differently this time," Shinji said as he lifted the cover, revealing the glistening, steaming main course underneath. Asuka and Misato were surprised
by the presentation, of course, but also that Shinji had apparently prepared a nice-looking bass for dinner. Despite her disdain for fish most days, Asuka couldn't help but take in
the delicious scent of their meal-to-be.

"Don't worry, it won't bite, take a closer look," Shinji encouraged, as he slowly and carefully pulled out a small remote from his pocket, well out of their view.

Regarding their roommate with the briefest of curious glances, Asuka and Misato's eyes returned to the bass on the platter as they leaned in closer, the scent continuing to waft
over them, luring them in. Finally, when they were close enough, Shinji grinned and pressed the button on the remote.

The minute he did, the tail of the bass began moving and the head quickly turned to face Misato and Asuka, while music began to play. The "bass" then started to sing:

I wanna know, can you help me,

I'd love to staaaaaayyyyy...

"YAAAAHH!" a greatly-startled Misato and Asuka both cried as they jumped back nearly three feet.

Take me to the ri-ver.

Drop me in the water.

Take me to the ri-ver.

Dip me in the water...

Misato and Asuka settled down a bit from the shock they'd just received to notice the sound of snickering. Looking up, they were surprised to find the source of it being Shinji,
the remote still in his hand. Finally, he couldn't stifle it any longer and let out one very hearty stream of laughter.

"APRIL FOOLS!" he exclaimed between laughs. "Aha-ha-ha-ha, oooohhh man you should've seen your faces..."

Asuka and Misato just stared at Shinji, dumbstruck, their mouths hanging open upon realizing they'd been had by the least likeliest of people. That, and they'd also just
remembered what day it was, and there were still five hours left in it.

"Oh, wait-a-heh!-you can see your faces!" Shinji added, "you get everything, Pen-Pen?"

The two of them then turned to see the other denizen of the apartment hanging out at the hallway's entrance, a camera phone having caught the entire prank on film. The warm-
water penguin gave Shinji a 'thumbs-up'.

Asuka and Misato turned back to Shinji, still in disbelief over how a boy they knew almost exclusively as an introvert managed to pull a fast one on them, for once. Their
individual reactions from there varied.

Misato broke into some laughter of her own, while Asuka gave herself a face-palm, cursing herself for underestimating the meek boy she lived with.

Shinji settled down a bit as he spoke up. "Don't feel too bad, it happens. God knows I got a lot of it at school today. (*AHEM* Asuka *AHEM*) But don't take it from me..."

Shinji then pressed the button again, and all eyes watched as the bass started moving and singing again. This time, a different song came out.

Here's a little song I wrote,

You might want to sing it note-for-note:

Don't worry...be happy.

Don't worry, be happy now.

On hearing this, a small smile started to appear on Asuka's face. Thinking about it more, she didn't mind this little change of pace, even if it was just for one day. Misato couldn't
help but feel a bit proud of Shinji for the lengths he went to in order to get them like this. And as for Shinji himself, he indeed felt proud at getting back at them for a lot of the
teasing he'd been subjected to, especially on a day like today.

(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry

(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy

Yes, for Shinji, it felt great that he'd managed to get them, hook, line and sinker.

END.

**Author's Note(s)**
A little something that came to me that I wanted to put up in the remaining hours of April Fool's day, with the idea being that whatever kind of prank Shinji could
pull off would have something to do with one of his two preferred skill sets. Add in one of my favorite gag items ever made, and the result is this. No foolin'.
