Summary: On trying Shinji's cooking for the first time, Rei's reaction was...not what anyone quite expected.
*Chapter 1*: When Rei Met Shinji's Cooking
*Disclaimer: I own nothing of Gainax, Khara, or Columbia Pictures.*

Lunchtime at Tokyo-3 Municipal Middle School saw EVA pilots Shinji, Asuka, and Rei up on the school's roof eating with their classmates Toji, Kensuke, and Hikari yet again.
Once more, Shinji had thought ahead and had prepped a bento for Asuka, but to Rei's surprise, he presented her with one tailor-made for her vegetarian diet. Rei, though she
didn't show it, was surprised by this action on the boy's part. It then occurred to her that she had never really sampled much of Shinji's cooking before; whenever she observed
Asuka, she could tell that, in spite of the girl's rather slightly-dismissive 'compliments' on Shinji's cooking, she really enjoyed the meals he prepared for her each time. It had
made Rei all the more curious as to how good the Third Child's cooking skills were, and said curiosity would now be sated as soon as she opened up the bento. Grabbing hold
of some of the grilled vegetables with her chopsticks, she brought them to her mouth and placed them inside, where she began delicately chewing them as her tongue began
registering the taste. What happened next, no one ever saw coming.

Maybe it had something to do with Rei's unique hybrid physiology, but for some reason or another...that first bite tasted good. Really good. Euphoria soon began creeping up on
her...

"Ooo...", Rei uttered in a near-whisper. "Oh...Ooo..."

Shinji's ears perked up at the sound as he faced the First Child. "Are you okay?" he asked her.

Rei didn't pay his question heed as she continued savoring the flavor. "Oh...Oh god..." she said softly, yet audibly as she ran her fingers through her blue hair. "Ooo, Oh God..."
It was hearing those words that got the surprised attention of the others, as Rei's voice began slowly climbing up in volume. "Oh...Oh...Oh...Oh God..." Her head tilted
backwards as her expression became more like if she were in ecstasy. "Oh yes, right there..." she said as she felt the bite of food travel through her esophagus, the depth of
flavor continuing to linger on her taste buds. "Oh!..." she intoned with a gasp, followed by a second. "Oh...Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes...!" As her voice climbed higher, the sound
of it began attracting the attention of the other students eating down on the ground level, with many a curious stare among the small sea of faces. "Oh...Oh...Yes Yes Yes...!"
Rei was now really in utter ecstasy; though it was only her first bite, the food was unlike anything she'd ever eaten, the stuff she was served whenever she dined with Shinji's
father, Gendo Ikari, now seeming paltry compared to it. "Oh...Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes...!" Finally, she seemed to slowly calm down as her tone of voice did the same.
"Oh...Oh...Oh...Oh God...Oh...Oh...Huh...". As she caught her breath, when she reopened her eyes, she was met by the most stunned expressions on her friends' faces, all of
whom were shocked at the level of emotion seen in the normally-quiet and stoic girl. Realizing what it was they were in fact stunned by, a touch of pink appeared in Rei's cheeks
as she quietly resumed eating her meal.

Asuka and Hikari, on the other hand, continued to stare in utter disbelief at Rei, before turning their respective gazes to her bento. They then looked at each other briefly, then at
their own bentos, before finally turning their gaze towards Shinji. It was then the two girls said the same thing simultaneously, while pointing at Rei:

"I'll have what she's having."

END.

Three guesses as to which rom-com classic I'm paying homage to, having watched it for the first time last weekend.
